Apologies for the lengthy post..
Here is what happened..
I was calling the dealership daily to inquire about the status.. one such day the sales rep unintentionally said Sir apki gari to taqreeban aai howi hai...invoice ka wait hai.. that was the tell..
I am doctor and we are trained to extract info out of patients as many a times patients don't know how to explain their symptoms.
I asked him a leading question (just like we do in medical history taking)...
Aap ki baat theek hai, laikin yeh to batain abhi gari kahan khari ki howi hai aap nay.. kahin showroom may to khari nahin kar di meri gari?
Now he was trapped... he said nahin Sir... showroom main nahin hai... I immediately said main gari dekhnay aa raha hon and I reached the dealership .. and took pics of the car which was supposed to be mine- parked in their shed with many others.
They had a sheet - it was a print out - Toyota Indus Logo was there on every paper- which had the engine/chassis number listed against customer names & PBO numbers.
After 2 days the website status changed to invoiced and I received the same car after 7 working days as Toyota withheld invoices due to the price decrease thing. The invoice had the same chassis number & engine number as the earlier pics.
The dealership said kay normally cars 7-10 din pehlay aati hai... invoice kay. Is dafa 2 weeks say garian khari hain as Toyota withheld invoices despite dispatching the cars as prices were expected to decrease and Toypta thought it was an excellent PR moment.
So as per my understanding this is how it works. You book the car; Toyota dispatches it 7 - 10 days ahead of tentative delivery date.
Invoice is only generated once the dealerships confirms receipts of each vehicle in perfect condition ( I think this is a good thing as customers would be protected if any thing happens during transportation).
Once Indus receives confirmation from dealership; invoice is generated.
In my case and many others who booked around the same period, cars remained parked for more than 2 weeks as Toyota told dealership not to inform customers due to expected price decrease as people pressurize dealership for delivery once the cars are received.
