Transmission Oil change on OLD Cars

Searched internet, heard from people that changing automatic transmission oil on old cars cause tranny to go bad. Reason that if for some reason old car (as in my case dono old owner changed it ever or not) did not had oil change, has shavings and sludge inside transmission. Draining the oil and adding new one would cause loosing both and making parts loose as sludge and shavings are not there as they made their place in loose places (funny).

Should i change the oil ? transmission is working fine no problems so far. Oil seems to be transparent.

Dont think so ... How old you mean? And by the way with lack of maintenance any mechanical issue is expected

well no one can be sure about he maintenance done but oil is still transparent. Seems to be good sign i guess

if the ATF is so old that its thick as engine oil and does not bleed on a white tile etc then your trans is bad, but if your ATF is clear and red - then change it at the suggested interval, Honda are bad in this case because the filter is not removable in service and the transmission has low volume for ATF.

This causes rapid breakdown of the ATF. Change it (full flush requires cooler line flush technique). And I believe your old type transmission takes GM Dexron 3 ATF.

Better to remove the sludge than live with it!
e.g- My neighbour's cultus had and still has a rusted clogged up radiator... Always used tap water because his mechanic bhai said" coolat zehr hai..."
Six years later his radiator was literally held together by rusty areas! On a hot summer day with AC, his radiator had four inch crack and his engine had overheated! It is stilll in the same condition!

At the end of the day- Better safe than sorry!

that really depends on cars. Few have exposed ones other have them non serviceable espicially mine.

All auto transmissions have serviceable filters except for honda. You have to replace it!

in these Honda automatics there is no sump, the filter is at the bottom of the transmission but it will require complete tear down to remove, Once out, there is no point cleaning it, replace the item with a new and updated part (if applicable)

do an ATF change. Be sure to use a good quality ATF

@xulfiqar juat drail and refil qill do or have to drain,fill and then remove sending pipe that sends atf for cooling and drain some until new fluid shows.

the cooler line method takes out all old fluid from the system, the drain and fill takes out half.

i have civic 2005 .110k driven . so transmision oil change is due .. never changed the filter ,what do u suggest ??

All auto transmissions have serviceable filters except for honda. You have to replace it!

I think Oil change is due.... First check the color. If it is pink or red then change. Burgandy or Brown then you might wana leave it as it is. Because in that case there are enough particles preventing a slip

your transmission holds about 6.5 litres, the procedure in the video is a standard cooler line flush and changes all the ATF.

The 3 litres is the drain and fill only from the drain bolt.

@Xulfiqar a technical question ........ see if i have cooler line exposed why do we need non service able filter? we must be able to add some sort of oil filter to return line that is taking the fluid back to transmission. Possible?
