deosai has recieved snow fall last day or so... dont know abt its route is open or not.. anyways, i have crossed it via trek in snowy months. it is another great experience... if you can do same...

follow the plan of @aesiege as u r doing and for sure you will enjoy alot.

i had to leave for rawalpindi on tuesday but waiting now due to car, saturday ko kaam karwaya but some loose ends were left, i dont want the car to create any problems for dad when im not here. besides, car's work is done, but im not leaving tomorrow only because deosai is closed. im following the facebook page that @ranasherdil bhai suggested and other threads as well. should i wait for deosai to open or leave on wednesday and hope that it will open when im traveling because according to the schedule devised by @aesiege bhai, deosai will be day 6 of my trip.
while roaming in north the most expensive thing is the travelling cost. eating and sleeping are cheap... 20k seems a bit more for deosai crossing as it is not the full bloom of deosai rather initial time... i dont know abt prices etc however i am smelling it around 12-15k or so.

in astore not to miss are tarishing, harlikofar base camp rama meadows you can also reach minimerg from there provided with army permission..

if u have interest in archeology than believe me months of trekking and sight seeing will be less for you only in chilas region..

@ranasherdil bhai, yes i'll think less and do more, but i've been reading some other of your posts and the astore-deosai-skardu or alternatively skardu-deosai-astore patch is confusing me a little. because if i add up the jeep fares you have mentioned to all the places, places that @aesiege bhai recommended, only the jeep fare goes around 20k as per my calculations, hopefully im wrong

@conflicted bhai, i wanted to see the entire northern area but understand that the trip will become very long and out of budget. since deosai was kind of my first love and i also had to visit fairy meadows on this trip, @aesiege bhai has recommended that i stick to the right side of the map. according to the plan he devised, i'll visit fairy meadow, astore, deosai and skardu. he gave detailed information about all the locations as well. the points you asked to ponder are golden words, really.

right now my plan is to leave karachi on the 9-10 am bus. there are 2 bus services to choose from, faisal movers (Rs. 2300) and karachi coach express service (Rs. 2000), i have good reviews of both. upon reaching rawalpindi the next morning at around 10-11 am hopefully Insha ALLAH, i hope to leave for chilaas instantly, reach there probably by 6-7 pm and stay there. leave for raikot next morning, reach over there, get a jeep to tatu, trek to fairy meadows, stay over there. next day go over to beyal camp, come back at night, stay again at fairy meadow. next morning reach raikot. here is where i have no idea what to do... how to reach astore.

If u will start from Pindi around 10 am then you will reach Chilas around mid night. Drop down in Chilas, take a hotel and get some sleep.

Next morning, sit in hiace going to Gilgit from Chilas and get dropped at Raikot bridge. Join a group for jeep to Tatu and complete your Fairy Meadows trip.

Now the tricky part is on return from Fairy Meadows. There is no bus stop at Raikot so people like u just get dropped otherwise destinations are usually the towns behind or ahead.

Gilgit - Astore and Chilas- AStore hiaces move during day. If u r lucky then u will find a seat otherwise u have to get on any Gilgit hiace / bus and drop at Astore mor. Now any vehicle going there will pass from this point and there is a chance that u may get a seat.

I think route will open by the time u will get there otherwise visit Sheosar Lake from Astore side and then come back to Astore. Take PT to Skardu through KKH and reach Baltistan from other side and continue your trip.

I've read on another thread (i guess, dont remember) that horses are also used to visit deosai when its snowing? if that is the case, horses, being one of the first things i felt with love in, would be awesome ! anyway, you've trekked from chilam chauki to skardu?

got it @aesiege bhai. this particular part was bothering me a little, since i thought only NATCO busses will pass through the way, if its a hiace and i've to wait for a while, no problem at all. I think im asking a lot of questions now, actually jawab dene walay mil gaye to kuch ziada hi free hogaya main lekin baray bhaiyyo ki advice always comes in handy. i had first thought i'll take it one at a time or jo hoga dekh laingay, but bhaiyyon k mashwaron ki waja se my trip will become more extensive and beautiful, isliye, asking

another question is lurking in my mind (ever since i was able to understand your plan much more clearly) that i dont have to stay at chilam chowki? i have to just visit it and leave for deosai at once? can i stay at deosai?

after skardu, when i have to visit khaplu, kharmang and shigar valleys, do i stay there or come back to skardu at night? do i stay at upper and lower kachura lakes?

after reading what i have written, it seems very foolish to me. but rather be safe than sorry. bas dil mein sawal araha tha, pooch liya

you can stay at bara pani, i have posted some snaps of deosai core and himalayan bears of deosai over here you can find my that thread naming destiny 2011 part 2 or deosai some wat (forgetting its title)... at bara pani thereis a check post of wwf and may be u can get rented tents and sleeping bags as well on bara pani... however, it is on chance...

no security risk in baltistan... you can stay any where, khaplu, hoshey, shigar, kharmang where ever u want to.. get ur tent pitch it in upper soltoro valleys and u will get real karakoram taste....

No need to stay at Chillam. Infact, if u r using Astore - Skardu jeeps then u will just pass through Chillam and will only stop there to collect your tickets for Deosai National Park.

From Skardu, u have both options available ... either do day trips to all valleys ahead or stay anywhere u like as there is no security issue in this region.

i had to leave on 15th, then my car forced it to 17 and then the deosai snow fall delayed it other wise i had to leave today. in any case, i'll leave on 20 Insha ALLAH. i have a tent by the way, should i take it?

ok bhai stick to mobeen's plan, no need to remember new names rather, write down all the names on a paper and study any good map.
no ther is no hotel on deosai and i wish there should never be an hotel....
you can take ur tent and sleepingbag however as i feel you will not use it.

Nevertheless went to some places at least, only astore (down town, rama was missed), tarashing (upto rupal, nanga parbat base camp was missed), deosai and skardu (only main city, deserts, upper kachura and shangrilla).

Missed fairy meadows due to wrong information about it being sealed, missed rama and nanga parbat base camp ahead of rupal valley due to a faulty jeep and finally khaplu, kharmang and shigar due to PIA, but, the trip was memorable. I'll make a thread as soon as possible.

We are not planning for August because of the monsoon rains. And kindly tell me whether 5-6 days are enough to explore these areas? And also which hotels are the best to stay over there. September is perfectly fine and u can visit all these areas.

You need 8-9 days for Isl - Isl journey

Diesel availability is very common and petrol is also available in all main towns.
