Toyota Raize or Daihatsu Rocky is even smaller than Viatara and comes with a 1L engine that too a turbo and companies are not taking any chances introducing something with turbo because or fuel quality. Again it does not compete with Tucson and Sportage.

I think it would be rav4. It went as the best selling hybrid in 2019

1, RAV-4 Hybrid has a 2.5L engine not 1.8L, CBU would never be able to compete with sportage/tucson.
2. Sportage headlight condensation is not a fault, that's how they're designed as iterated multiple times in Sportage thread, nothing "snobbish" about it.

Are we sure he's an "expert" and not someone who peddless whatever half-assed information is fed to him?

The whole thing about launching CBU first to ‘test market response’ and then deciding to launch CKD also makes no sense since CBU will cost 3 times CKD. ‘Market Response’ is not independent of price. If Sportage had launched a 15-18 million CBU they wouldnt have sold a single one.

But useless debate since as you and wahab pointed out there is no 1.8 hybrid Rav4. PW does have a history of spreading false rumours.

A classic example of this is the suzuki Ciaz. Granted, different products, different brands but the basic logic is the same.
Suzuki launched CBU ciaz costing only a few lacs more than the locally assembled competition to "test market response" but it was a failure and now it's been discontinued. I don't think its too hard to imagine what would happen if a car launches at double the price of its local counterparts.
The CBU first, then CKD strategy is market specific, as in the case of Proton X70 in Malaysia. The CBU cost 99,000 ringgit whereas the CKD came in at 94, 000 ringgit. I don't know why our auto assemblers can't understand something so basic.

Its a long list. Ciaz i would say was still a relative success story coz price diff was not that huge and we saw some on the roads. But the many CBU Camrys, Accords, CRVs,Priuses, LCs, Prados, Kizashis and many more never even made it out of the showrooms.

Well tbh they have no one to blame but themselves. When they lobby for hundreds of percent taxes and duties CBUs are automatically out of the question.
