Used Suzuki 2017 or JDM (Passo, Vitz) - in 14.5 Lac

Hi people,

I have a budget of around 14.5 - 15 lac (Not a penny more than that ) . I need a car for a very few travelling inside Lahore and for travelling from Lahore to Fsd on weekends.

My top priorities are:
- Fuel average
- Low ownership cost
- Good resale

I am very confused between choosing to purchase a JDM or PKDM. In my budget i can either get a used Vitz, Passo or Cultus 2017 VXR ( I don't want to purchase wagon R) . I've been told that Vitz doesn't give above 11KM inside city and at max 14KM on long (From Vitz owners). But i've been reading on forums that vitz even give 18KM on long. That's my main concern regarding vitz (after it's annoying engine noise) Due to low fuel average, less engine noise, i decided to go for Passo.
But then i heard Passo's part are not easily available and are very expensive (from forums), the market value is not good.

Then i finally i decided to go for Cultus , but in my budget i will be able to get it's VXR variant from 2017. I know i have to sacrifice on a lot of features here like Auto transmission, ABS , airbags etc.

Yes you need to drive with a very very light foot on highways to give 18 else its more like 11-13 and then the heavy noise.
Yes Passo parts are not readily available and expensive but still a considerable option. If you have insurance then no issue at all other wise parts like headlights are the same price as New Cultus. Only expensive parts are bumpers
So if you dont want manual then go for Passo
Waisay i have driven new Cultus VXR with no ABS and braking is really good its like unbelievable

Which years Passo can you buy in your budget? Getting a JDM is tricky, i.e what condition / mileage it was imported into PK (use the chassis number to pull the original auction report from PW) and how the owner/s in PK kept it.

I'd recommend Passo any day over a Cultus provided you can find something good (not a mayyat preferably).

I wanted to purchase a hatch back. Handling of sedan and keeping it is a bit difficult in streets of faisalabad & especially you're living in a hostel. But will i be able to get a city 14 model in 15lac ? i think in my budget i'll be able to get 12 model. Again the fuel average of city is 11 i guess within the city (heard in a video from Suneel Manj sb).

I was thinking the same... but in the mentioned budget I think with the current insane 2nd hand cars prices in cities like Lahore and Islamabad one can only get a good 2010-12 model .... meaning almost a decade old vehicle. Whereas he can get a newer hatchback in that budget.

Thank you for your response. Yes you're right about Cultus. Cultus seems like a decent option to me. What i've heard from it's owner, the fuel average is very impressive. People are getting around 20+ on long.
Even if i get 16+ within city i am okay with it . But getting 11 within city is really bad like in case of Vitz. What's passo's fuel average btw ?

That's the reason why i am not going for a 12 model City. That would be around 7,8 years used. sigh!! Also, i don't have a need for Sedan right now. I feel more comfortable with keeping a hatch back.

Agree with you about the prices and fuel average...haan in city traffic a manual Honda City gives around 11-11.5km/l... have heard people getting 14-15 but I have serious doubts about those claims so in your case hatchback is the one to go for

I love vitz and passo by the way. And I really wanted to get Auto transmission, But with the current fuel prices and our economy, for a salaried person fuel average is a serious concern and so is ownership cost.

I think i'll be able to get Hana + 2014 model. I really wanted to get a Passo, just a bit afraid about the parts availability. Resale of Passo is not bad now a days i guess , is it ?

What parts are you mostly concerned about? Maintenance and body parts are easily available for the 2014 shape (I have a 2015).

Don't worry about resale, it's a relatively in market car. Again, I'd emphasize on buying a car in the best possible condition instead of worrying about resale.

Any part that usually gets damaged in an accident. bumpers, lights , side mirrors. Btw this is my very first car i don’t know much about car’s maintainence. So i have been told a lot k mechanic lot lein gay JDM cars ki maintainence mein

What’s the fuel average you’re getting from Passo ? Also, does it has lesser engine noise and better pick than vitz ?

If it's your first car, go for a BOSS aka Mehran or perhaps an older cultus. No issues with scratches or fender benders.

Learn about maintenance and general upkeep then move on to a better car.

My Passo gives 11 in heavy city traffic, have seen upto 19 highway with a very light foot.

Majority of vitz owners are pouring in 20w50 in vitz and then cry about bad average n engine noise. If you use 0w20 or 5w30 as recommended by Toyota, vitz return 15 plus in city (Islamabad) and you can expect higher average on long.

edit. I am talking based on personal experience with 3rd gen vitz that too with up-sized 15 wheels.

Brother I would sincerely suggest to go for either Passo, or Cultus. Vitz may be the last choice considering your budget constraints.

In case of JDM Passo or Vitz, first have its auction sheet verified (it takes 1500-2000 Rs. at max., for its verification, and if you are lucky, it can also be done in 1000 Rs.). Then whichever car you buy, have it inspected by Pakwheels Car inspection service, OLX services, MechanicUstaad (if in Karachi), etc. for any / all issues, and if going for JDM, have its condition counter-checked with its Auction Sheet.

Both reports must match, and current condition of the car must be equal to, or slightly worse than the condition as on auction sheet, if talking about paint, scratches, dents, broken parts, etc.

If current condition is better than as described in the auction sheet, then some "Fankari" might have been done here to conceal actual condition.

Major issues to look for:

1. Car must be 100% Non-Accidental (especially major accident)
2. There must not be any issues related with its engine, transmission, suspension, etc.
3. Minor scratches, dents, etc. may be acceptable, and most importantly;
4. Documents must be clean, and the seller must preferably be the current owner of that car, so that you do not face any issues regarding trasnfer of ownership
5. There must not be any criminal actvity, lost, stolen, theft, etc. record associated with the car. Police report can verify it.

(These are the things to look for, and coming in my mind right now. Fellow members can add other things too)

After thorough verification, buy the car after max. negotiatiions and bargaining, and at market price, not more than that.

Also have some amount reserved for transfer of ownership costs, taxes, etc. and some minor works.

these days do not pay money unless you get the biometric slip of the person who is the owner on the car book.

I got a car which was being sold by an investor who got it from some military officer and he assured to get me biometric slip from him but he was failing to give me so as the guy was not providing for some unknown reasons. then I had to approach the officer through official channel and then I was able to get the biometric slip. Lesson learnt. you cant transfer the car without biometric. dont fall for words and get it first before payment.
