Welcome to the forum Nigel...so you are from beautiful Mumbai....chopati, Marine Drive, band stand at Bandra...quite a city. Not to forget some lovely people and cars out there. I have been to Mumbai once but have a lot of fond memories.

I have pictures of Nawab's 540K and teh V16 Cadillac. I will post them tonight as they are in my laptop at home. Hi, Thank you symbiote, Alvis, and Mohsin, What a lovely welcome... and then Mohsin I have heard that Karachi is just like Bombay. Very similar they say... I live in lovely bandra. When I was a little kid back in the late sixties I saw a Hindi film star Sheikh Mukhtar park his V 16 Cadillac outside my building. He came to see a famous story writer Gulshan Nanda.

Alvis that's the main reason for the interest in the Caddy even thought the Nawab's has a diferent shape. Thanks for letting me know that there is some discussion on the V 16 on this thread.

Mohsin I saw the photos of the 540 k on the other thread... but Alvis mentioned in the next post that the Nawab had a 500k

Thats the reason for my question because I saw the 540 K photos on a Team-bhp site...but I'm wondering if this is the wrong car.

By the way only yesterday I saw a 1935 Bentley Derby 3_5 Liter for sale on the Internet. They say it belonged to the Nawab of Bhawalpur.

The Nawab of Bahawalpur's car was a 500K. Body by Barker, documented in MB archives.

They also had a couple of 3 1/2 litre Bentley's and would not be surprised if the car you posted is actually the Nawab's car. It has very low mileage for its years and is RHD too.
I say this because a lot of fine cars of this age are passed off as being part of some Maharaja/Nawab collection by a lot of shady western based classic car dealers.

reg. the 500K and 540K issue, I 'll check with my two friends who are quite an authority on Nawab of Bahawalpur cars, one is in Lahore and the other in Indore Mahraj Manvendra Singh Barwani. Mahraj told me that he had obtained a list of all Mercedes Benz cars bought by the Nawab particularly in the 1930's. I think he had mentioned 2-3 such cars but I can't recall which ones exactly. Will find out asap.

teh above Bentley is Nawab's car. Amir in Lahore has an original photograph of that car.

Mohsin your're very welcome. The pics of the Bentley are really great. yes M. Barwani is a very knowledgeable person. I saw that he's written a book on vintage cars too. It will be very interesting to get an update from your friends. I forgot to mention earlier that I had discovered your vcccp website a few days ago. It is great site you have there with lots of good photos and info. By the way on 24th ie. this Sunday there is a Rally at bombay. maybe the vccci will have some pics if not I will send you a link to such pics as I know many people will be photographing this event.

Alvis yes very intersting your comments. Im sure we will know soon. Is there any web link to the MB archives?

Man !!! you have a R12....wow! I am a biker at heart and have a 1938 Triumph Tiger 100 that needs restoration, a 1949 Speed Twin which runs well but needs cosmetic attention and a 1941 BSA M20 with side car......I have seen some great bikes in India including a Norton Manx in Mumbai. Do you know P.P. Asher / Magneto

Yes Mohsin, I do know Asher. He rewound the magneto armatures for me. He has a nice Healy. I suppose you have seen it. I have two R12's and one R50.
Does your 1938 Triumph Tiger 100 have a mag/dynamo? I think I use the lucas one of your model on my black and red R12. Your bike has a girder front fork.. A friend had a speed twin years ago. Nice to hear you are a bike lover too.
I didn't know R12's were so popular there. How come.. and now romano mentions it too. I missed buying another R12 with lots of missing parts. Did the famous french riders pass through Pakistan too in their ride in 1999?

no R12's in pakistan....atleast I am not aware of any....I met a guy called Rocky in Delhi, he had over 200 bikes in his farm house cum warehouse. met another guy in Delhi Sharma who also had a big colletion including some vintage 'Indian' twins. India is full of great bikes. Thanks to the embargo on export of anything on wheels pre-1942 I believe. We have no such embargo and ppl have exported bikes in terms of container loads....
