This is the 1956 to 1960 fuel tank. Has surface rust everywhere but seems solid. Will bare metal it for a sound resto.

You would best know the condition of the reservoir in question. It's upto you to see what repair method suits you. Personally, if the tank has holes, I'd play it safe and might find it better to scratch-build a new tank. I suppose you could patch up the old tank and use it to make a buck or something and then have a new tank beaten into shape.

thnx for your concern.. well I have all its accessories and parts and also the roof reck have got wooden slats, and its in good condition. Also i have got is original keys, original rear and back view mirrors, extra VW sports steering. etc

I will upload some parts pics soon.

As far as rims are concern so they are my favorite and I don't think that I will change them after restoration of my Bug

You know I have these rims before I had my Bug!!!!

 I posted the actual pics of the tank in question a short while back.....previous page....

 I would not touch a holey moley tank with a ten foot pole. The one I bought is correct for 1956 to 1960 VW beetles. Its a tough cookie to find especially in Pak so when this came up it really was a case of beggars cannot be the choosers!

The tank seems solid having only surface rust. Real story would come to light when its baremetalled though.

Btw how have you fit the alloys?? Adapter plates??

Personally if I had my way (I dont in this case!), I would have put thses alloys on a lightly customised post 68 bug. A beautiful clean original looker should stay on the originals. Anyway, its your car so your choice ultimately.

i still dont agree with you , you can compare any denter just by the floor pan show any kind of floor pane and he will made it not a big deal althoug he is charging hell lot of money but its worth it.

Sami's red in the face with embarassment Hmmm... I think a good de-rusting would work for this tank. Try to do it with chemicals rather than a sand-blast (if you can have it done in Karachi that is...) as sand blasting might reduce the thickness of the metal. Other than that, I think (lightly) tapping all over the tank with a hammer will show if it's sound or not. It seems to be in pretty good shape actually.

from what i know that car is almost beyond saving, kind of liek the silver firebird which I bought a while back but ended up returning to the dealer since the engine seized on the test drive.

Too bad, that black trans am was a real nice car last time i saw it on the roads.

Storm! i cant believe you actually drove a Firebird on a diesel! Coaster 3B or (not to B?)
I saw a silver Firebird at the Liqui Moly yard a couple of yr ago, minus engine, was this the same car?

storm drove it when it was on the original engine, i think after that it was converted on a v6 japanese engine

great work on that VW floor. I 'll be brief here as its 3 am and need to get at up at 6 to get ready to catch my EK flight back to Karachi. The fuel tank de-rusting is not a solution as the rust will be back sooner than later. You can't primer it either as the primer would start peeling off. Bring it over to my house on Sunday and we'll see what needs to be done.

Here is my Bug's snaps in Snow Fall of Quetta. I am planing to get my Bug's color restored in next year summer.

In the last pic he is my friend standing with Bug, you can see the original roof rack with wooden slat in it also. He is my best friend now a days he is in England, most of my Bug's snaps were taken by him.
