Couple of weeks ago I went to one of the largest classic car
show/swap-meet in town and took these for your viewing pleasure.
Most of them were for sale.

I have only one part picture of the chevy. Shows just half the bonnet and is low resolution being from a cell phone cam. May be enough for a buff to figure out what it is. I had no clue. If you are really interested I can pmail you the pic.

agreed. late 70s/80s hulks are by no means collectibles anyway..anything from the 60/early 70s would still have some charm left.
however, there is intersting jap metal as well, coupe versions of the early 70s corona, mark-2/cressida and crowns would be amazing finds. mazda 808 & 929 coupes as well have a cult following in japan and australia/new zealand..anything of that sort(salvageable) passes your eye..do leme know....

I dont know what to say about what comes in the definition of 'collectible'. Debatable topic.

I shall keep a lookout for two door jap coupes for you. You'd hate me for informing you, I was a witness to an early seventies Celica murder some months ago. Car was in superb overall condition, though left hand drive, with all trim bits and badges intact, shining chrome bumpers, decent interior and best of all had the original petrol engine. What more could you want???

Scraper wanted 60k as is and 120k if he gave it with the paperwork.

The tricky part with these deals is the offer lasts a few hours and not even a whole day. Once these cars are at the yard, no time is wasted to hack them up as there is no parking space for storage, even overnight.

If Im not mistaken the W111 series is the one with upright headlamps and a fintail kinda end??

This was the model recently cut up according to one of my 'moles'. I did not get a chance to go and check it out myself. Car was complete and had most trim and bits. I got the news later that the donor's proceeds went to one of the MB specialists at shershah. At least they would live to tell the tale in one form or the other.

Do you need parts or a complete parts car??? I can ask to keep a lookout for a parts car if you say. Its your luck what turns up. Again id mention that a 'rescue' is very tricky business as I outlined above.

Stay tuned to this forum if anyone is interested in a rescue. I shall post any news here.

a trip to the west coast is overdue, inshAllah i'll head back out there in a few years (hard to travel such huge distances with small kids and no concorde)

I can only say:...."DAMN!" wish i had known, 120k for a genuine & complete celica is near to a bargain..im sorry i wasnt there..however...id b grateful if you keep a look out!

in all seriousness, on average how often do you guys drive your classics and are you at all skeptical about the volatile nature of the city these days and refrain from taking them out?

@mohsinikram: Sir, I believe my friend called you about his E Type getting restored. However, he's now getting it sorted with a mechanic in Defence. I will post pictures soon.

In the Lahore summer rarely maybe once a week for each car... mainly a run down to the shops... like in the UK classics are taken out rarely in the winter.

But in winter generally every day or every other day especially if it is a usable classic like the Mini...or teh Datsun z. When i get the AC in teh Z it shall be driven in preference to the Rx8 for example....to protect the Rx8. It has almost done 95k km.... more than any Rx probably in PAkistan.

There are two ways to look at the depression caused by the bombs etc.. one is to drive the cars and the other one is to let the bombers win and retreat into a shell or leave the country altogether.....no sirree... this country in MY country and THEY will have to leave not I.

thats the spirit that we all need to have and follow. I use one car everyday...maybe only for a short drive to the market. Fiat 500 is quite a regular office going car...in summers too as I normally wear cotton t-shirt and the car's quarter windows give a perfect blow of air on my chest :D. Furthermore in times like these when money seems to have evaporated in my case atleast, it gives me great miles per gallon.

@hardtalk - yes, I met Salim and saw the E-Type. Though the car is in pretty sound condition and is a great resto project, I quoted a sum for body work which he apparently thought was too high.....I actually had this denter from Lahore on a visit who is the best denter I have seen in my classic car hobby life, which is 28 years. He is expansive and my involvment and E-type would have meant specially imported chemicals to derust and etch primers etc. Anyways, its an easy project and wish him godspeed from me.

i agree with you guys entirely. since i don't fast ive taken the buick down sharae-faisal from ftc till karsas and back during iftar. perfect weather at that time and not too much traffic, not an excuse for over speeding but just a long relaxing drive.
hahahaha its often the case that a simple drive in these cars becomes a run to the workshop in particular. as far as the violence goes my dad seems to be getting very very paranoid these days!

I drive my cars around any and every chance i get, which translates to almost every day in the summer holidays unless i have to go someplace where i cant afford to wear shorts and/or there isnt reliable parking-quite an issue in lahore at times. As for the winters, the cars and i both love them since i dont have to worry about the temperature needle while giving them the full beans. Early morning in the summers is also a good time- no traffic and nicer weather almost everyday. The cars start acting up in weird ways if you dont drive them regularly. As would any machine which is meant for regular use.

I believe that depression is the most useless emotion ever, it makes one less productive and actually prevents the brain from considering different possibilities which could actually help to solve the problem at hand.

I say the same for something like Bomb blasts, we need more vigilant security and it is high time we stopped waiting on the government bodies to do everything. There cant be a security network stronger than one that is community based. And even if we dont go out and police our neighbourhoods, our simple co operation with the authorities that do would make the job much more effective.

Most of us are highly irritated when we are stopped at checkposts which doesnt help our cause or the policing authority's for that matter. I co operate with a smile-might make the poor guy's day though it certainly has enabled me to hear quite some interesting jokes from them.

Timmy - Mustang kee taangein uthee hoee hein :D. On a serious note, the car is waiting for new steering parts....tried repairing the old but didn't work. Did a disc brake conversion on the front wheels.

I heard about the Graham....that car needs to be saved and saved quick. Thats the only known classic car with a supercharged engine still intact.
