I respect your feelings and second you on this point. But, you know, sometimes, we have to accept things exactly as they are. No matter how pathetic the facts are and how depressing it is to swallow that they belong to a poor family and their families need their monetary support to feed the younger ones. The little boy working on my car, Pappu, is 11 years old & his younger brother, Nona (not in pictures), is just 7. They work together after school to shoulder his father, Fruit wala in Sabzi mandi , fulfilling family basic requirements.
I asked the boy,” What would you like to become in future?”
The boy innocently replied that he would become a good denter .. How Cruel..
As far as the remedy is concerned, we can not always stop the person from taking child labour. It depends on how well the person, taking the child labour, knows & respects you & subsequently listens to you and stops taking child labour. But in the above case, I was not in a position to govern the workshop owner to stop the boy from working on my car. If someone is in a position to stop, he should take preemptive measures otherwise the responsibility does not lie on him. That’s all.
