does anyone know about the import duty structure on a classic car? i mean i want to bring this old jag from england, any idea about the durty structure, or the big question is can i bring it in as it is over 40 years old ? Mohsin any input ?

 If Im not mistaken you were on the trail of a once owned caddy stationwagen? And someone reported it had been scrapped. This Sunday's Dawn has an advert for a 1959 caddy station wagen. I think you should take a look.

Id also keep a lookout for a 1500 Mazda engine. Will give you a shout if I ever see one. Many Mazdas, even in excellent condition are being scrapped at Shershah now.

I'd personally advise you to keep it. Can you give any more details on the car? Engine, transmission etc. Is it original in condition or modified?

I am afraid you cannot bring a car older than 2 years (or is it 5 years??). Yesterday I read in the papers that the government will legalise older cars by charging 30% penalty on C & F but only till 30th November 2007.

That Aussie bug might get scrapped soon!! The authorities are cleaning up the area of encroachments. Have asked the guy to let me know if he has any such plans beforehand. Will pass on the info to you.

Btw I have bought a ton of stuff off the 64 bug I told you about. That was scrapped too. Have quite a few bits for the 59 now.

I suggest all of those lucky guys here working on restoration or repair works better post their current project details with pictures so other car fans can learn from it and help spread this knowledge.

The above pic was taken by my cousin Imad while visiting one of the palaces of nawab of Bahwalpur. The blue car is a 1936 Austin 7 Opal 2 seater tourer as verified by an Austin 7 Club member who owns a similar car in UK.

You have picked up an interesting point which somehow got overlooked by me.....i.e. what car is that behind the Austin? alvis, kahmed, everyone out there, help! help!

I was looking for my grand father's Chevy '56 station wagon. The one advertised is a 59 Impala station wagon so I have heard.

I see. I was really sorry when someone reported that that particular station wagon was scrapped.

The Impala might be worth seeing. Caught up with some issues at home at the moment otherwise would have gone to take a look (as a time waster for the seller to be honest!).

On a different note, on the morning of 9th November I was snooping around the Russian consulate but failed to find the convertible Sunbeam which was reported to be stranded somewhere near the place. Any clues to the exact location?

It is in one of the lanes next to the Russian Consulate, can't recall exactly which one but just go around the consulate and you 'll find it. That car can be saved.

What happen to that classic road trip from khi to Lahore? Is it still in the pipeline? If the plan is final do make a stop at Bahawalpur to learn the latest about these classic cars maybe we can still save some of these beauties. Anyone else here who got any contacts with the Bahawalpur family can also help out in this regard.

I remember seeing a car like this at the Dawn classic car show 2003. The owners motored down early morning and got here by 9am. Not bad for a 70 year old car!
