@all, the mid 60s Mercs look great even today. Does anyone know why? They are not a German design.. (go for it, lets hear the story) anyone?

I would not presume to have the knowledge of Mohsin Ikram. In any case I am not so much into the 30s / 40s stuff.

Romano. The Merc just arrived four days ago and has just been brought onto the road aftera layogff of several years. I take your point about the hubs. These are genuine but need the back pain. Work in progress............... show you final pics soon. The interesting thing about the car is the original fuel injected engine.

Nice find. what happen to the back lid of this car? Do you have a picture of the front?

The back lid is very much intact although the denter has taken it off. Will post a pic of the front in a day or 2.

@Neuro, get two wooden railway sleepers.Bolt them lengthwise waist high along sides of Landie, and you are ready to hit (pun intended) the road. Cuts in sleepers of course, to enable you to open the doors. You can, if feeling charitable, bolt one either end of the landie too.. Ideal vehicle would be a 3 door hard top early coil spring version...

I remember seeing a pair of old Mercs at a house in Lahore...one was a 220 Ponton Coupe and the other was a light blue fintail, a 220 perhaps (don't know much about Mercs. The fintail had a sunroof, was left hand drive and was highly original but condition was pretty bad as it was left out under the sun for many years. I wonder what happened to these two cars. The Ponton was black and garaged but with heaps of old furniture on top of it.

'alvis' is a Phd in 'Mercedes Benz' and should be able to tell who designed the fintail....(looks heavily influenced by GM though)

Just asked my friend who has informed me that the car is in Gulberg 5 (he doesn't remember the house no.). There are 3 Mercs, a 4 door Ponton, 2 door Ponton and the fintail. The owners are 6-7 brothers, one of them heads the Asool Bank in Dubai. Names are Aurangzeb, Jahanzeb etc. If this is info. is not good enough than I 'll try and get more info from elsewhere.

Thanks. the info ought to be enough but if you have any more that would also be welcome. My Khalas live in the house opp Hamid Nasir Chatthas FIL ( Father in Law)..in Gbg V. Along with numerous rellies in the neighbouring streets. Will try and trace em out

Doing a deal for another classic ... let you guys know with pics when it is through. Car is on the road but need resto. Complete and nice. Will let you know when the man actually hands the papers over. Its just a deal with a handshake at the moment.

At this rate of acquisition though I shall probably remain at my ancestral house and the wife and the kids will move asking me to remain with my Chakras

my source tells me me that:
-Dawn car show will be on 1st and 2nd December
-Venue is Convention Centre Islamabad
-Contact persons are in BDR section at Dawn office Islamabad. 051-111 444 777.
-They wont be publishing an ad in the paper, so chances are the majority of the people will miss the show (dog show got an ad though!) I have heard they are calling it an 'exclusive'event, whatever that means.. no riff raff, thats people like me I suppose

Thats a very nice MGB GT you found there. I only knew about two of them, this is perhaps third. One was owned by my father-in-law in Karachi and the other is with Isphandyar in Islamabad. Is it available? if it is then go for it.
