Vitz or Honda City?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a car. Basically I don't really care if it has any fancy features etc. The main thing is that it should be reliable, and for the next 5-8 years, should not cause any problems. My budget can go up to 13 or so lakhs, but obviously have to look at the best buy. The options as far as I can tell are:

-Corolla xli. Apparently xli etc have been recalled, at least right now they are not available. Plus a bit on the expensive side.

-Honda city. 08 ones will become old once the new 09 model comes out in january. Right now they are around 11 lakhs. If I buy the 08 model, will their resale value increase or decrease with the 09 model coming in? Is the 08 city a good buy for 11 lakhs (given that it was 9-1/2 lakhs a few months ago). 09 will probably be 13+ lakhs.

-Vitz. The 07 model can be gotten for under 9 lakhs. They are refurbished, but apparently everyone seems to like them. Plus I don't mind driving in petrol, I don't drive to much. But will they last 5 years without giving much trouble?

-Cultus. Seems vitz is better than this is most respects, so I'm not considering it.

What would you guys advise? Is Vitz really a more reliable car for the next 5-8 years than a new honda city?

vitz is a best buy specially now-a-days when even cultus is for more than 8 lacs and as far as reliability is concerned any of the car you stated shall not give any problem for 5-8 yrs if you take a good care of it.

hmmmm... if features r not an issue then Buy a 0 meter latest shape corolla Xli ! and beleive me it wont give u any trouble for 8-9 years ! My dad dont use any car for more than 1.5-2 years but once used Corolla for 4.5 years , and in tht period it didnt give us ne trouble ! and my phuppa is using the same model for the last 11 years !
Gli wud be the best option but its abv ur range now !

and dont buy Honda , i myself own a civic 05 but i swear its really xpensive on maintenance and not at all tht durable as compared to corolla !

Vitz is indeed a nice car but really cant compare it with City since vitz is a 1.0lt hatchback and City is 1.3 sedan. And there is big misconception that City is expensive, not at all in fact City is not the kind of car that will make u go to workshops often anyway. Now is the my analysis of City:

1. City 2000-2002 hypervalve: very nice and powerful 1.3 and decent in both shape and performance.

2. City IDSI 2003-2006: Shape might be an issue but overall a pretty nice family car with huge trunk space, engine is under powered. The 1.3 manual is better than 1.3 auto

3. City IDSI 2006-Present: Shape is much better

4. City Steermatic: Best of the bunch with 110BHP VTEC power and amazing 7 speed mode. Offers both performance and economy

vitz is the car nowdays spares are also availabe easily even for the new shape...just go for vitz...if u need power go for a vitz wid 1.3L engine althouch its hard to find but mil jaye gee..

if u r looking for durability / resale then go for corolla and if looking for driving pleasure / economy then go for City. Vitz is expensive in maintenance and poor in resale. If possible then wait for the launch of new City cause its awesome with ivtec engine and coool look(Y)

i own a grey new shape vitz, my analysis out of city rolla cultus n vitz is that after driving all of these over long n short routes, vitz was the one which never made me tired even after a 7 hour drive i was very fresh...for city driving i remember once being stuck in traffic for one hour, on my left side was a EURO R ...i knew the guy n he has a manual car, believe me after the first 30 mins he was almost going crazy on the sports clutch to some how find some way whereas I was just taking my foot off the brake every time i needed to move a few feet. CONCLUSION Vitz is the best car in under 9 lakh if u can afford to keep it on petrol, simply unmatched in all aspects but u gotta find that jem ...that piece which shud really be in mint condition,,,coz replacements n spares are very expensive.

Buy a GLI it is an amazing carhttp://assets.pakwheels.com/emoticons/14.gif even if u cant afford new shape the older one is also the best.Honda city,Vitz these both cars parts and maintinance is expensive than gli and dont buy vitz especially because its resale valuee is not good.Whatever car you buy dont buy a Automatic car because when car is Auto Transmission and it is 2000cc using Auto trans would make that car 1500cc.Friendly Advise.

if u go for vitz than keep in mind the spare parts are dayem dayem expensive my left rear view mirror got stolen it costed me 15000 for single and 30000 for a pair

other than that the is awesome i enjoy my ride more than any car I drive it gives me soothing pleasure and completey makes a gem out of it.

the regular service charge is like 3000 Pkr.

The room is very spacious too

in my opinion search for a really clean old model civic(2004, 2005), a very good such civic ll cost u around 8 to 9, so i think its a good option.
