wht is the availability of engines here in the market? i think ill be swaping sumthing with bigger displacement in my 1969 because with its current 1200cc motor it moves more or less like a turtle...

you can convert your "D" engine for a 1300 with very little except a crank swap and if you change the heads to a set of dual port heads you should be already looking at 44hp (up from your approx 34hp) which would be almost a 30% increase in power.

if you want a 1500 or 1600 conversion you'll have to get pistons, cylinders, crank and heads (at least), but this stuff is readily available in PK from time to time(some new/boxed) so no worries. however if you want to go anything over that you'll have to upgrade ALOT of parts and it'll cost ALOT of money.

Corrado is going to be a true classic for sure. And i see more and more corrado projects here, but the one in the pics above is class of its own. i lov the color too.

you have no idea how much i love the last of the corrados (1995), i begged and begged the dealers in the UK to find me a mystic blue "storm" but to no avail. too bad all the euro cars are now "modified" or at least used to the joy of owning a "new" corrado will never be there for me. i ended up waiting for a year and then buying a VR6 syncro golf instead:(

@Storm, no info on the AV. Doc found one at shershah a few days ago and didn't know that it came out of a T182.

And about the list.
You told me once before and I do remember reading somewhere else too that the H series engine has a CR of 7.8, and the L series is 7.4.

And what is a replacement case??

From the list, I think that the best T1 engines are the AB and AR. But those would be hard to come by here in Karachi atleast. Infact, I've never seen an Ax series engine yet.

Which CASE would you recommend for a little extra power? Lets say just a few easy mods to take it to around 80bhp. And able to handle a 'little' boost.

And I need a little info on an oil pressure gauge. Is there a certain voltage/current rating I should be looking for, which would connect to the pressure gauge? Or any type would work?

oh now i get it (about the AV). As for the CR's, i've always read and quoted the H to have a CR of 7.5:1 and as far as i know it's been in that spec accross the globe. As for the L, i'll have to check before i make any changes to the list.

replacement cases are new cases available from VW. New castings. why bother with a AR, AB or any other A,.. just get an H or somethign like that, and swap out the heads and intake for a dualport setup and get a 1600 conversion... BTW a low compression motor like the AV or AE are great for "boost" applications.

BTW if you wnat a real performance motor in you type 1 go for a type 4 conversion, those engines are larger in capacity and have more tuning potential for about the same weight. alternatively you can go for a "local" dual carb conversion which would involve simply casting a set of intakes which would accept your carb of choice.

for the oil pressure guage all i kow is that the warning comes on between 2-6 PSI but that's all i can find in the info i have (will check my electrical diagrams for my 1303 as wlel and let you know IF i find anything).

great link BTW (Y) have read it a while back too when i was building the 1303, it should be a must read for anyone building a VW in PK.

have updated the spec list for the engines. Have added a few engines and have included the timing for a few of them too. any info you all have can help improve this lest. as it is, this is now the most comprehensive list available on the internet regarding VW flat engines.

@Storm, I already have an L case. If I don't find an Ax then that is what I'll use.

I'm also getting an Engle 100 cam and lifters from the US. Just waiting for my cousin to bring them over.
I've plans for a CR of 7.4-7.5, for a little boost. With DP heads ofcourse.

Haven't started anything yet 'cos I'm short of funds right now but surely I'll get the engine in my 'bedroom' in a couple of months.

An elderly once told me to use twin Datsun's SU carbs in a Beetle for extra power. Anyone heard of this before?

i love it when i hear about someone doing such stuff,.. i'd love to be there when you r stuff arrives,.. i was supposed to be in the UK right now picking up myu stuff but unfortunately some events took place and i couldn't go. i'm also planning 044 heads, engle 110 cams etc,.. will be adding a list to my 1303 thread soon so you cna have an update.

nothing would please me more thna having a bit more torque in my asthmatic 1303 (because it is running a tiny 30 carb right now, instead of a 34 or more. which it needs as it is now a 1600)

as for the conversion, the L is a great engine as it already has a lower compression than many other 1500's. the main reason i chose not to boost my 1303 was because mahle 1600 sets (new) and 1600 DP heads (used) were available at the time. i'm guessing there would be more availability in KHI for such stuff.

my next plan is to find a case (any) and rebuild a "stroker" motor so i can swap it out when it's ready and run in. i'm tired of pounding on my 1600 now. also i think it's time to do somethign about my gear ratios,.. even though i have a 1303 gearbox i find the ratios to be WAY too short, but i can't justify at least $1400 for a "touring" style one.
