Just saw Fahd Panni’s beetle ragtop (1963) on road side today, wish I could get the permission from the owner to replace the side mirrors, tail lights, deck lid, wheel cups, indicators, hood trim, fog lights and interior extras….

Just keep it simple..You have my permission to simply replace the owner.

I would think of it more like the fella's commitment and love for VW bugs. I mean I'd be sceptical too if the guy had just buggered up a car with all sorts of funky body panels and lights. Here he modifies an exterior wall to accommodate a bug! We don't know what condition was this bug in prior to its "wallifixion."

@storm roughly how much did ustaad charge for the beetle? So I can figure out how expensive he really is

most denting was done by babar but a few parts were also done by arshad, i'll haev to ask the owner the exact amounts and get back to you on this.

do note that each car has its own expenses, this one was (from what i recall) quite expensive as it had extensive work done to it so that it would have a 100% perfect body.

But please also note that it takes hell lot more than just owning a bug. It means serious money and serious passion to take a bug to this level. I am sure, hardly a few among those exist today, would be able to compare to the level @nmshaikh has maintained/preserved this GT Beetle a.k.a. "Shahzadi".

having had to move this car once i can speak from experience, i've never been in a beetle as good as this one. the only ones which come close are romanos, Salmans & fawaz's cars.

Thank you folks for making me gloat in these compliments. I must mention that I have really 'used' this car and while I maintained it throughout she is no trailer queen show car. I have clocked a fair number of miles and taken it places even I felt sorry for it at times in the 20 plus years i have owned it. I came very close to selling it at one time as it was my only car I did not put in storage when I left pakistan and was being neglected but thankfully was talked out of it. She'll be her old self the moment I return Inshallah.

A typo maybe ? Even the Mexican bugs of that vintage had different tail lights. Check out the motorcycle mirrors..In any case it looks clean...

I dont think this is a problem at all. You have circled the winding inside the alt body. I dont think its easy/possible to change. My guess is the mech put in a different regulator inside the body. Access to the regulator is achieved by removing a small cover plate on the top of the alt body. I think if its working well you are good to go.

The field coil in a VW alternator can be replaced eyes closed with a field coil from a Merc. If you look closely the Merc coil has more windings and improves the power output considerably. I had the swap performed in two alternators done by Khalid Electrician and the transplant was a success from the word go! However only a trained eye can pick up the correct part and i would trust Khalid to find the right one for the purpose.

The pulley on the car also appears to be the wrong one and a non genuine item. Replacing the pulley would help but do check for play as Dr. Asad recommended/

This is definitely a 1970 bug. Owner does not know........ but then, maybe it was imported privately and registered late in 1979???? Possible I think. But definitely a 1970 year model.

If the rear decklid is the original one, it started life as a 1500 deluxe.

Good to know about the MB parts interchange possibility. I hear it from somewhere else too but did not believe right away then. Now I know it is true.

how much can this beetle cost, its 1974 super beetle with karachi number, in pictures parts are removed as owner plans to bring it to original shape, engine is also removed for renovation... rest floor panes are ok and doors are ok... thing is, it seems good in total....ur opinion required

been busy this sunday, i present to you "the impostor" (read the plate).

it's a 1969 1500 deluxe, and still with the original owner (since new) and all numbers are matching with the original book. Romano came over to the owners house last night for a quick once-over,.. now the hard part of sourcing parts...

Looks like a nice bug. Interesting color choice.

This would be from a 67 as the 67 came with the headlight dipper switch in the arm (as opposed to it being controlled by the foot) (another of the 'firsts' the 1967 model year came with..)

The 1966 model was the one that got the dipper switch on the arm for the first time =)

Both the 66 and 67 bugs had the dipper switch on the tip of the indicator lever assembly.

we ISB members always make fun of my denter (Arshad), we always say that he is more of a "kasai" than a real denter as he is known to chop up perfectly good cars. so when the variant that he chopped into bits many years ago came out of hiding we jumped at the oppertunity to take a comical picture.

the famous "kasai" at work... LOL! (yes the picture is staged and he is holding the saw upside down)

He would only do what is asked of him. If a well respected member of the VW community brings him a perfectly sound Variant and asks him to chop the top and make it into some contraption they saw in a magazine...what is the guy to do???? If another friend of the same person wants Arshad to build a trailer out of the same cars rear who is he to refuse?
You should have seen how he put together a car that was crushed under a building after a gas cylinder exploded. (murree Rd. 2002ish) He took left over parts from more than a dozen cars and put together a beauty which after a good paint job no one would believe was a wreck that had arrived at the workshop. Or the car belonging to an army officer that was wrecked in a road accident and even the tunnel was bent in the middle!!!
He has earned my respect over the years having transformed basket cases into head turners...He has done body work on at least one and a half dozen of my cars...and on one occasion when he was too busy I took the car to Rustams, paid him in excess of 30k (in 2005) then brought the car back to Arshad to finish. He has come a long way from his Peshawar road, road side workshop days and has really mastered the beetle curves. The only thing I'd hold against him is his time management but having said that I am guilty myself of pulling him away from whatever he is doing to attend to my "zara sa kaam" first.

I may be wrong but i once owned a one previous owner 66 that had the dipper next to the clutch. My comment was based on an observation rather than research.
