Just wanted to share this perfectly clean 1969 LHD Deluxe that has been riced/chopped top type-1 which was captured on a local mechanic's here in Multan and pictures have been sitting for quite sometime in my cell phone:

I absolutely hate these parts fitters who use regular RTV to join the crankcase halves - WHY CANNOT they use something like permatex 2 or threebond 1104 like anyone with common sense would use. These products are available - pricey yes - but having an engine that does not leak oil is the reward - and you can drive around in rain etc, and the thermal difference would not dislodge it.

And we have our lovely beetle owners saying a beetle leaves it mark - NO it does not if you sealed up the engine properly like it should

..but these are original seats complete set..and for $125 only...I had to drag myself away as I don't have a place to store these. They were too good to pass. In any case they got picked up within an hour. I had the advantage of being there early as one of my friends had a spot at the show. (He sells Porsche parts) This way he could get a vendor ticket for me and I could go in there before the general public was allowed in. I roamed about in relative peace for the first couple of hours and had a first go at the goodies.

First go on the goodies...now we know why you drove 12hrs to attend the indoor swap meet at Michigan

These are pre 64 seats. I picked up a set last week after having them reserved with the seller.

 Guess where they would be headed???

 Permatex and threebond are not commonly available here. Not to support the guys who INSIST on using the RTV silicone......IMO they should get a generous serving of the same, in red color only, in their every orifice for good measure. Maybe that shall cure the problem??

Spent a fruitful day today tinkering on my daily driver 68.

Replaced the alternator. Had put in one from the engine layin around temporarily. It had worn bearings but charged good.

The one in my car had this habit of jumpin around making a racket....the engine sounded horrible (Shahzeb has heard it all!!). Took it out when I suspected the fan coming loose. Turned out the fan was a slight bit bent causing the whole alt to jump. Had the fan changed. During re-installation today, discovered that the fan belt pulley was a bit out too. So installed a brand new one from my stash. Things are way much better now, in fact sweet :*
