VTEC works Without O2/Exhaust/Air Sensor...?

I hate to ask this silli question but im in middle of nowere so asking it....Does VTEC kicks in/Engage/Works. if an engine (D/b/f Series) does not have (O2/Exhaust/Air) Sensor...??i have d15b 3stage vtec n it does not have the exhaust sensor on its exhaust manifold.....im having my rev limiter around 7500rpm,but can not judge either VTEC is engagine or not..??please help..pakwheelers

exhaust sensor is not issue for vtec ur car should have rpm which every car have check ur engine weather at has two vtec solenoids

O2 have nothing to do with vtec. It use to manage the air/fuel mixture.now for vtec test, ground one wire and other to the ecu. And hit rev limiter.if lights blink on then vtec working or else u need to inspect other things

check its connections each have one positive wire connect both wires with seprate bulbs and start car and see one will on after 3k rpm and other will after 5700 rpm if so then working otherwise solenides are defected

@ali i have the same engine u have posted pic..!!it got 2 vtec also..also tel me how to find the positive wire of the each solenoid??n how shud i do the vtec solenoid working checking in details??

each solenoid have only one wire which is positive.it takes earth from body. connect both wire with separate 12v bulbs and then start car and give full rpm and check working of bulb
if bulbs work then soleniods problem
otherwise wiring problem or ur ecu dont support vtec

or get it checked from a vtec knowledged elect-ration

one of the vtec engagement primary requirements is to having the ECU in closed loop mode - which means it needs some feedback to the o2 pin in the ECU, it can be from either a trim pot (pk model) or o2 (regular model)

Why are you missguiding ????
Vtech would not work if car is idle..Giving full RPM on idle car would never switch on the vtec..You need to drive the car past 3k and 5.7K RPM for the Vtec to be engaged..
Dont suggest wrong things mates! First get knowledge yourself before suggesting.

The first Honda training books for the mechanics for vtec operation in the NSX contained.

the VTEC cam lobes will engage if

1 - engine temperature above 70C
2 - VSS signal showing speed above 45 km/h
3 - ECU is reading 02 sensor - no other CEL condition exists
4 - crankshaft sensor speed shows above 3400 rpm

As a matter of fact, i had the same scenerio when i had this engine, its a sleeper motor if its really the 3stage vtec motor. however it has only 2 vtecs, but 3 cam profiles, its unbelievable right!! but believe it, thats true. some people speak so much **** about these motors without knowing its real potential, anyways. yes this one is difficult to manage as **** loads of wiring issues and too much sensors everywhere. i can tell u that if you have a P2J-003 ecu then you have a manual 3stage vtec ECU and yes your ecu will support vtecs. also it has a lean burn mode which will only engage if you have all the wirring properly done and have the same engine which the ecu is made for. the lean burn mode needs, the O2 sensor feed to the ecu to do the calculations and switch to lean burn mode or not. in lean burn mode the engine can go upto 30Kms/litre mileage....

I have a d15b dual Vtec engine in my car and when I bought it it was running with original ECU. The car was consuming a lot of petrol and the power was not that good because the V-TEC were not working.
So I did a little research and read A fee topics on Pakwheels and finally decided to change my Ecu unit to P2j j63 or P2j j62 since my car is 4speed Automatic transmission.

I went to mithu Khan ka ahata in Rawalpindi and tried Ecu P2j j63 and the car was not running well and the performance reduced with that ECU, then I got p2j j62 and the performance got better, then the I took a test drive and the car felt much more powerful specially after 3200 rpms. There is no check light/fault code. Initially car was giving code 38 of second Vtec but that was resolved when electrician plugged the wire in correct pinout of the Ecu.

I asked the electrician if my car needed an O2 Oxygen Sensor but he said that its not required and the car ia not giving any fault code for that but if you want to install it can be done.

Is he right that all D15b dual Vtec engine don't have o2?

D15B dual vtec jdm has O2 sensor. I also have D15B Dual Vtec in my 1998 civic.

I was driving in the morning and suddenly the check light came up. I had to go somewhere so I went there and when I turned off the car and started it again there was no check light.

Later in Noon I got the car scanned and it is giving the o2 oxygen sensor code(fault code pic attached)

Atm I don’t have picture but it has 2 wire O2. You need to instal exhaust which has o2 in it. You can get it from scrapyard near you.
