No worries. It is very natural to feel that way towards wiring tasks as they are somewhat confusing. (but it would've been a great way to kill some time)
coming towards the elusive VTEC feel, you really need to be in sync with your car to notice it. meaning having a heightened sense of observation/hearing of the various things(RPM,engine note etc) involved when
1. VTEC is not engaged.
2. when VTEC is engaged.

try installing an aftermarket air intake , as these systems amplify the distinct sound change of the VTEC crossover ,when the aggressive cam is employed on the intake valves.

i sold my A/T vti and bought M/T

i feel a boost in my manual transmission vti. normaly i change 3rd gear in after 60km/h but when i push the pedal and vtec kick in, then you don't need to change 3rd gear till you reach the point, car easily reaches 140km/h in 3rd gear.

but i didnot have that kind of boost in automatic transmission

Thank you again Saad. That highlighted part makes a lot of sense. That's what Temojin told me over the phone as well - I really don't know my car very well - it has been a month only. I had an EXi earlier, a 2002 one, and their sound is totally different softer and lighter. So it'll take some time to know how it behaves, and judge the minor variations.

I'll stick to driving it to know it a little better before rushing on to conclusions.

About the last part, true again, I mentioned it to Faeiz as well, that it is a great marketing achievement by Honda Pakistan, that 14 years gone since this engine was introduced, and for 14 years Pakistani youth ''felt'' a very prominent ''vtec 'kick''' which didn't even exist in the first place.

Now answer these questions to make my confusions clear:

1. If the vtec is not a performance one , then the only reason why vti outruns an exi is because of added displacement? And if it doesnt make much performance difference, why did they give us that instead of a real performance one or a vtec-e?
2. Is vvt better than vtec, when it comes to obtaining maximum power with efficiency through optimum timing at all rpms?
3. What's is the "squish band"....? I read in one of ur posts where u explained the squish band of pistons, but what does "squish band" have to do in a head?

If the page which saad has presented from a Pakistani Honda civic 6th gen manual, I was totally wrong about the serial number of that engine. I admit it.
Yet another question arises and that too not for the fact that I am trying to be a stubborn bloke yet a bit more inquisitive than normal.
Dubai 6th gen has the same engine (if ours is D16Y6 if the manual is for Pakistan) i.e D16Y6 and as far as I know the quality of fuel is not a problem there and Arab market always has more powerful variants of engines. Again, could I have the link to the page or even a comparative page where it has been shown that both the engines are different as the links I have yet seen, clearly indicate that both are same and the Y6-8 difference only exists because of area classification. Many tuner forums also suggest it.
@Bango, Malikji is totally right about the car reaching 140 kph in 3rd gear. mate kick or no kick but its performance really gets a boost after 5,500 RPMs which I have noticed yesterday. This boost is noticed despite
1- Half of air intake blocked because of CNG settings
2- Car running on CNG.
3- Wheels really need balancing
4- Need to change the bushings I had mentioned which is due tomorrow inshaAllah (it too makes the car sway a bit while accelerating hard which is a hurdle to acceleration).
5- And last but not the least, the engine has completed around 90K kilometres which is a big factor itself.

Well, i have a 97 civic vti. And the VTEC that i feel (very) prominent is at around 3000 RPM. You really cant miss it honestly. On petrol it is much much more easy to notice. Other then that, i cant say anything because not sure about troubleshooting but im guessing that MIL should come if VTEC isnt getting enabled or something.

The 97 Civic came with single vtec IMHO and it engages at 5200 RPM. What you feel at 3000 RPM has to be something else.

I never knew how V-TEC activates, it's amazing. but comperatively VVTi (Toyota) & VVL (Nissan) is not that fast. & I have to say MIVEC (Mitsubishi) is also faster.

No dude, vtec is just a marketing strategy.....Its three decade old technology....
And anyone who has a bit of a technical knowledge can easily tell that vtec and vvt is just over-rated fancy clockwork....

There is no such thing as "vtec kicking in".....

Think of vtec as a device which gets the timing right when the engine loses it at high rpms and manages the valve lift.....and that's it.....there's nothing more to it....

I had a 2003 Vti [manual] at the same time that my dad had a 2005 Vti [prosmatec] and I've gotta say that this whole Vtec kicking in thing is totally overrated - I'm certainly no expert though, and only speak from hands-on experience with both the machines. Have since switched to MIVEC and am actually enjoying it more, especially in comparison to the prosmatec
