Webhosting suggestions

Hi I am looking for a webhosting service to host my website which is currently hosted at a webhost which does not support Wordpress 2.5.1. I need to switch to a Linux based service or if a Window host can run PHP as an ISAPI extension.

Please give your suggestions with details of hosting plans. I already have the domain registered.

run a server at home. just buy a domain and fwd it to ur home server, run all the applications u want, almost everything is availble as open source and free.

As for rights, once your domain name expires you have no right to it. Anyone can register it. A warning though is that companies like networksolutions are cheats. They will steal your domain the minute it expires and then charge you extra to give it back. Other honest companies like NetFirms will warn you that your domain is expiring and will put a "hold" on your domain for a week after expiry so you can reregister anywhere else if you want. The best thing to do is renew your domain a few days before the expiry.

Running a server from home makes no sense with one or two websites. It's too much of a hassle and expensive when you can get it for $10 (2 domain, 250gbhosting) from NetFirms.com

If we re-register before the domain expires is ok but we hear that dome domain are really costly like when facebook founder bought the domain facebook.com he paid $ 2 million dollar for it, in such cases what if they steal your domain if its valueable?

@anopak thanks brother for detailed info. It seems a very attractive package, exploring it a bit, but reluctant to use my credit card online.

I already have a domain registered in pk nick, so name is not the issue. The problem with my host is that it is not running Wordpress latest version 2.5.1. They have asked me to wait as they switch me from Windows to Linux server. I am not paying anything for the space, because a relative owns a sizeable chunk and resells it to others, but not charging me.

Yes the promotion is $10 for two domains and hosting. You can also host other sites if you want. Make sure you cancel before the year is over or they'll autorenew your membership @ rate of $120. I cancelled after 1 year and really made use of the bargain! They are easy to cancel - no issues ever.

I think Netfirms.com only accepts credit card.

S55 - As long as you have the domain in your name no one will make you pay a million dollars to get it back. Problem is only if your domain is a good name and someone quickly gets it after your domain expires. Just to avoid this problem I renew all my good domains a few days before they expire.
