well - Ive bought thousands of them in Karachi and never called them thimbles, always spade, butt, splice etc etc. connectors - its their real name. And the shopkeeper always pulled out exactly what I want.
The regular off the shelf car auto part sellers used to call them pins - but Ive never ever heard a thimble. Best wait for a Isb guy to reply, I can only speak of Karachi.
