Sir that award is only given for the sake of change, if the P99RS won the award that does not mean it is the best HU ever or JBL GTI are the best components in market.

A simple RF360 processor can best the MS8 for value, let alone the PXI or Bitone or even the 7 years old Pioneer RS P90.

Definitely the PRE OUT of 9650 is much better, if one is planning to use it in a competition.

One can also verify that by pairing it with a 1-2 KW AMP/SUB.

Sonic qualities of P80RS is however much better then the 9650 or even the 98XX series.

All Pioneer uses same comparable standard output even if they are CEA certified or not.

That is the reason why the P90RS and ODR uses the 4V but a digital in and out.

However, the 4V Pre Out of Alpine CDA 9855, 9887 and 117 are much superior to the ones used in mainstream units like Pioneer 7250SD/6050UB or Kenwood X8XXX.

Definitely we cannot compare the Alpine 7909 4V out with a Customized outboard DC-DC converter or to a lesser extent the Clarion D2 with the Alpine CDA 9887 or even the Pioneer P90RS 6.5V.

My favorite ECLIPSE can give a clean 8V- 55Ohm signal.

or the best RFX 8410 with dual 1bit DACs with 8X oversampling and a 8.5V signal.

or the mighty DENON Z1

All of Ontario specially Toronto is very expensive thanks to Asian immigrants.

There is a guy called George steward, Anglo African or like that at apartments at 3610-43 Avenue, Edmonton having a warehouse who supply for big sellers and distributors but he would probably not give anything to your friend for just 1 unit.

You can also search at Amazon or American online stores, they will charge a premium for shipping and duties, if any, for a 360-400$ final price.

Get the shallow VRS locally, they are the best you can buy for your money.

I can import you the Type X PRO for 300$+ Custom duties but I have had a very bad experience in past and it does not worth the effort for both you and myself.

Sir, I dont want to unduly trouble my friend. It is currently -9C over there and being my friend, I wouldn't want him wandering here and there. Yes, the speakers are available at Amazon but adding shipping costs, it raises the cost to around $380. Moreover shipping time is also an issue since my friend is coming in 2 weeks. Anyways Ill see what I can do. For the civic I have bought 165KR but still need another components so the topic stays on! will post new choices soon

Ok guys now that I have Morel Tempo 6 and Focal 165KR, I am looking for another set. This one will be running active with either P88RS, Alpine 9887 or Eclipse CD5100. Which speaker set do you guys recommend?

If you want to go active, why spend on component kit, since you are not gonna use the supplied xovers, why waste money on em.......

Go for some independent raw drivers. Such as; Seas, Phass, Scan Speak etc.

Sir this Clarion FZ 709 is a better one, if you can find one, not active but best for SQ.

Out of your choices The Pioneer P88RSII is better but it is not available at NA stores, they had the P880RS, neither in Asian markets as they have the P80RSII, even 880PRS is officialy phased out in favor of P99RS which is much expensive.

You can have the P88RSII for 500 pounds or 500$ from UK or Dubai.

I do not think Eclipse 5100 was active and not available for sale anymore for years, also Eclipse is winding up business in NA markets, never seen Eclipse units in Karachi for a long time.

The old Eclipse 7XXX series were all active, some old 84XX series were also active.

Out of modern units Alpine 9887 is also not available as CDA117 is official flagship unit now.

Boston PRO are better components, Type X Pro were better then them all.

You can also consider Kappa Perfect or JL C3, if you like.

This clarion is available at Amazon for USD 130 and USD 170 (shipped to Canada). Awesome price and I was about to buy it until I saw the reviews which stated lack of physical buttons. Keeping in mind the hectic traffic in our country, operating this HU would have been a nightmare. Also this unit lacks active capability which I am after.

Alpine CDA 117...hmm.....What is its price? Also what is the price of imprint kit? From the choices that are available to me, at the moment P88RSII seems the most feasible solution. Would appreciate if you can share its price too.

I was looking at the specs and saw that P88RSII has 1 bit bur brown DAC converter while Alpine CDA 117 has 24 bit Bur Brown DAC converter. Whats the catch here? Is this a misprint on Pioneers part of that Alpine really is far betteR?

Sir 300 CAD $ for CDA117, 100$ for the IMPRINT PXA H100 and 50$ for KTX-H100 tuning kit/CD.

It really sounds better then the P88RSII with a better DAC as it is a 2010 HU using a different Burr-Brown DAC and Pioneer is a 2008 one.

Alpine is also future proof with Satellite and HD Radio as well as Bluetooth Ready.

Alpine is also good for Iphone 4G and IPOD 5G+ as it can bypass the Ipod DAC.

The catch is it cannot go active or do EQ without the IMPRINT.

P88RSII is active out of box with Auto TA and EQ, a 5V out and 16 band L/R equalizer, much better display, will cost you North of 40K Rs from UAE depending on availability.

Kappa Perfect are very good components, like what you can expect from any flagship speakers from a Harmon company, reviews from Americans are over my head most of time, try to find some Asian reviews.

Boston Acoustics Pro 60 SE and JBL C608GTi MKII are also good, however it is your personal choice.

Getting raw drivers is pretty logical but sourcing and availability of decent drivers at a good price could be an issue.

normally pioneers active capable decks have a switch on bottom side of the HU.

I also have a 9450MP and its specs indicate its has a 3 way digital network which i guess means its active capable. Problem is I can only install one in my car. Which one would you suggest? Is going active result in so much better sound that it is worth the addition features 8850 offers such as color display, better EQ, new HU(9450 has been in my car since last 3 years) etc

why not try going active? since we all have been using passive crossovers all over lives. would be a good idea to try something different. you can always revert to the passive setup - since you have both headunits

Sir nice idea but there are many issues one of them being I dont want my car opened up again and again. Looks like ill have to stick with 8850 unless I win a lottery and get a new active capable HU

Sir 9450 is a Classic HU, one more reason to prove they were making better HU 9 years ago.

However, 8850 sounds better, specially when playing WMA or compressed media.

I would use 9450.

Pioneer 9450's digital electronic crossover can better most crossovers of high end components with exception to DLS Nordica, Pioneer C172, JBL GTI or Focal KRX3.
