Which oil to use for Altis 1.8 SR 2009 (170K Mileage)

Hi,

I have a Corolla Altis 1.8 SR 2009 which has run 170K. I have been using Total Parco Oil 5000 10W-40.

But the last time I got it changed, I noticed the older oil was very dark and burnt.

What oil should I use for efficient running given the car is old and has quite a bit of mileage.

I read this article and it suggests usage of 20W-50 for engines with very high mileage. Now the car is in great condition with minimal wear and tear and it's alarming to know that an older engine should use a cheaper oil (as 20W-50 is cheaper than the rest), shouldn't it be the other way around.?

Stick To It...Try Shell Or Caltex In Same Viscosity

Keep Change Interval To 4.5-5K Maxxx....If You Feel Engine Is Dirty....Change It at 3k twice or thrice and see if it cleans..

use good oil filter and you are good to go

Sir, what about ZIC 10w-40? Its fully synthetic, with API SN rating.

(I just checked the local websites. Shell and Total 10w-40 and Caltex Havoline 10w-30 are mineral based)

Semi And Fully Synthetic Are Good As They Contain Detergents Which Can Clean Engine ....Oil Change Interval Of Fully Synthetic Are More i.e 7-8k Kms....

Use Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 fully synthetic.

I suggested you to use shell 5W40 instead of zic 10W40

Bro, I have Vitz, and I am already using its recommended oil grade.

OP was using Total 5000 series 10w-40, and asked for better recommendations. The Senior member recommended to continue the same oil, or try Shell or Caltex.

I proposed ZIC in comparison to Shell, Total, and Caltex, as they all 03 are mineral based and may be, based on old API ratings.

5w-40 will provide better cold start-up than 10w-40, and Technically, they should behave ideally at optimum working temperature of engine, still, 5w-40 would be a bit "thinner" than 10w-40 (considering their viscosities at 40 and especially 100 degree Celsius).
