In SA, 1.3 engine they’re offering is 1NR-FE which is of euro 4 and 5 category, it has great amount of torque, and its a new generation engine. 2nzfe is pretty old, and it is under the hood of corolla xli and gli from almost 2 decades. It’s time to change.

It may come with 1.3 in SA but we have to keep in mind Toyota pakistan gets CKD from Thailand. So getting CKD from Thailand and engines from SA doesn't make any sense. Rest the time will tell.

Indus can easily update the engine to 1NR instead of 2NZ, but the point remains any sedan venturing into 1300+cc will attract higher taxes and lesser customer (I am talking about budget concerned population and that is a majority) so till indus can source 1299cc engine for corolla they will keep the xli-gli alive. that is their highest profit generating unit or if the next generation corolla ditches 1.3 globally.
Lets see what the other manufacturer are bringing in that will tell what the future holds. 1.3 Vios/yaris sedan is also a fine car that keeps option open for IMC

Those who are saying about availability,I highly doubt. Old stock is being cleared no new booking.
Like honda has not been booking turbo for quite long while but website shows availability. Similarly Gli Xli are being shown on imc website.

Well but every body has excess budget. I started with swift, and almost confirmed the pay order but silver was not available and they were asking for one week, left it at that streched a bit and tried booking city that is when I got to know that the city coming hence forth will be 1.33 so saving on upfront cost at the expense of additional tax was not feasible plus the 6 months wait.
In the mean time Corolla came along with air bags and 70k price hike. That was a push that I had to take
Plus thing is 500k booking so immediately booked mine on 4th May. Car invoiced on 8 august. Delivered on 12 august.
So yes 15 to 20lac wala bhee APNI many years ki saving ko at stake laga Sakta hae and if not poor but yes not Uber rich also.
Xli needs abs that is one thing that I miss rest all is am more than happy
