The knowledge about car engines is not "infinite" because its man made. The principles of physics, mechanics, thermodynamics, friction, stiction etc have been already set and are followed. Anyway. I never said Im some sort of genius, its some members here that started saying that, Im just a simpleton who follows logic - in this case logic dictates that before recommending a lubricant one should know about the "said lubricant" - e.g. tell me what do you think a lube salesperson presents at a sales meeting in a large establishment - does he provide tech details and achievements or says that "touch the bonnet and feel this between your fingers"

To make it short - when you are in a business - know about it - when you recommend something at least know 80% of it and give factual evidence that can be measured. - Not, feel the smoothness, touch the bonnet idiocy that the fizool dozens of mechanics do in Pakistan.

You are using 0/40 in your MB. Have you tried 0/30 or 5/40 or 5/50? No. never or maybe in old car, or many other things like.. car doesn't need this & engine is not speecd for 0/30, etc. So where is the logic of 80% being assure before recommendation?

GS Caltex has Kixx's distribution in Pak.
And I personally don't like Caltex and neither of their products.
But now as they want to have the market share from ZIC, hence they came out with kixx's oil who are really better in quality so far. And presently Kixx is not being re-packed here and hence quality can be trusted. I've gone through their brouchers comprehensively. Once they start re-packing here, my suggestions will not go for kixx any more.
And Also, am not in oil biz either. (Smile)

FYI - I have used 20W50, 10w60, 5w30, 15w40, 5w40 (diesel) and even 0w20 in similar mercedes engines, the 60 viscosity oil was useless as it really dropped the fuel economy too, the 5w30 and 0w20 are no good for it for long change interval no matter if the oil was helix ultra (TBN too low)

The best deal was to get the cheapest oil that meets the tech requirements - in this case mobil1 0w40 was and still is the cheapest. Costs me 50 USD for two containers of 4.5 litres each. Why should I spend more money or even similar money on other products when I know its going to waste. lol... if you think that way then go ahead - its your money.

now coming back to the business and knowledge base part. You are recommending oils here on PW based on

1 talking to customers who dont know jack about their cars.
2 feeling oil between your fingers
3 feeling the bonnet for temperature
4 all pakistanis are cheating theives.

You may have come from some school of thought that "business means to maintain books" - I dont, I come from a school of thought that says to only do a business if you know what it serves. In your case at least know what an engine is and what dictates the oil requirements and other minerals in the add pack (that would be about 80%). Otherwise you are in the same category as the generic spare parts shopkeepers who sell parts as "parchoon"

I went to a spare part and oil store yesterday....exactly wat he was saying....he said that:

I do not discuss technical specs of oil with most of the people because they are not interested to listen anything contradictory to their Ustaad Mechanic Rehmatullah Alahe. He further said many literate people having all the knowledge in the world come to me for certain part or oil, even though I myself have attended numerous seminars and trainings which the customer also know, but the customer is more interested in showing oil/spare part to CHOTA Rehmatullah Alahe whom is sent by Ustaad Mechanic Rehmatullah Alahe with him to oversee that the customer does not purchase a WRONG part or oil.

He added that people want to purchase a part which lasts a long time even if it destroys other parts. For example people purchase a very hard looking break pads, so that they last longer no matter if these hard pads can damage discs. Same is the case with some Washer used between/beneath Kamanis of suzuki, people want real hard washers so they doesn't wear out fast even if they kill the purpose of Kamanis and transfers the shock with full magnitude to whole car body.

In my business I actually refused a lot of customers not that I could not repair their cars, but because they were morons/idiots and would try to argue that scrap is as good as new, I dont have time for that, life is too short to argue with morons.

e.g. if someone comes about and says that "used jenyan scrapyard brake pads" are better than the new OE ones - I would ask them to leave and I dont want their business - nothing more nothing less, they may think that they are all that, I dont care. They can go fly a kite.

Same with automatic transmissions, a rebuilt trans is going to cost 3 times more than a scrapyard trans no arguing in that, If someone says that Im trying to loot them with that price - they are most welcome to take their car to their mechanic and install the scrap trans, same with them arguing why Im charging money for high temperature wheel bearing grease when they can buy a multipurpose one for half price - their arguments were based on similar stupidities. Im a Pakistani citizen and feel comfortable around them but nowadays Im finding that most people start to argue insanity and think that they cannot be wrong no matter if its against common sense, I dont want such business and I cannot take care of such headaches that result from them.

My business was in Karachi, Pakistan - where i refused these stupid customers, I dont run such business in the USA at the moment. btw why would the US govt give me money??

let me explain to you of that certain oil incident, I had documented literature of the required oil type. I showed that guy the document and said - I cannot and will not pour that oil in your car even if you paid me double my labor. Its against my shop rules, get the correct oil first. If you dont like this rule then you can take your business elsewhere or do it yourself.

But yet am quite satisfied with their workings. After replacing them, the level of brake oil also came up a bit in the brake oil bottle. The price of front set of brake discs (total 4 pieces) were Rs. 1080/-

Call Bilal Autos right now 042-36845757 and ask them how many qualities of brake discs they have for GLI and prices of each. Then choose according to your interest.
This Bilal Autos has really good repute in our area for selling good auto spare parts. Buy the brakes from there, call me and i'll arrange to change it for absolutely free for you. (smile)

MK are quiet soft pads and i m sure they wouldn't harm the discs but the problem i foresee is that they will not work well in wet conditions. How is your experience so far with MK in wet condition during recent rains.

its not so long since I've changed them. But yet these are working perfectly well so far.
But during change mechanic told me that wheel discs are perfect while brake discs were almost done. And hence appreciated my decision to change them on good time.
By the way, what price of MK discs you got from them? And did you call to Bilal Autos to check the price gap?

I dont remember the exact price it was somewhere between 1100-1250. i m not sure. I havent asked bilal autos as i dont remember wat price i was told.

it has not rain since I've changed them. So cannot comment about wet braking. However dry braking is good & very well satisfactory.

Buy new genuine toyota brake pads from the showroom or an authorised parts dealer, one of the OE suppliers is akebono (hard to find in Pakistan), Any product that says meets OEM standards is not even close to it.

When servicing the brakes - replace all the brake fluid with new and use proper silicone grease on the caliper sliders and pad backing plate.

In some of your earlier posts you had mentioned copper antiseize for baking plates and silicone grease for caliper slider. So, silicone grease can also be used for baking plates????? or copper antiseieze and silicone grease can be used interchangeably??????
