whoa! whoa! Whoa!..............:o geez people this thread has gone out of hand
First and foremost the engine that we get here in our beloved PK6(VTi) civics is known as the D16y6 (NOT THE D16Y8) the Y8 engine was offered only in the US
and featured slightly higher duration and lift cams (somewhat comparable to that of a 92-95 P08 D15B VTEC) which in turn tells us that the engines we got here in pakistan are
1. having a low (CR) compression ratio as compared to its Y8 cousin (to easily run on our low quality fuel)
2.having slightly lower duration and lift cams again when compared with a Y8 Valve train
I seem to have been quoted over here by BackToCivicFaiez. which he managed to not properly explain, misinterpretation on his part but the concept was still not wrong , the Cylinder head we get over here is a true VTEC Head (code P2J) (2 stage).(1st stage) 16 valve mode (2nd stage) VTEC (performance lobe on the intake valves is employed) but it also has VTEC-E like qualities which differ and as a result have slightly lower HP figures and the slightly less fell of that VTEC kick feeling to compensate for the poor quality fuel we get over here but nonetheless the feeling is still present , the combustion chamber ,quench pads are all different on Y8 and is a more aggressive member of the D family quoted by some as "the type R of D-series power plants"
we all are eager to post wikipedia and youtube links but we rarely get to read them i'll quote wikipedia itself on the D16Y8 section .
D16Y8
VTEC
Also available in New Zealand under the code D16Y6
Found in
1999-2000 Honda Civic SR 1.6 Vtec (UK)................................................................
now in the very second line the existence of this engine is confirmed we were the "lucky" ones to also get the same engine assembled into our PK6 civics (it is even written in the Pakistan Assembled Civic (PK6's) owners manual (the one you get with the new car) (last specification pages , the engine code is D16Y6
this picture is from the European/New Zealand parts serial number book.

i'll upload the head comparison pictures as well for future references
coming towards the topic
the topic poster (i.e) bango (suggested by a member before as well don't know his name ) (bless his soul)
should find the car's ECU (engine control unit) and search through the wiring loom to find a distinct Green wire with a Yellow stripe , splice it, attach a small LED to it and provide a ground contact point to that LED

, Say bismillah-e-Rahmaan-e-Raheem
do the following checks
1) Make sure your driving it.. it won’t crossover in neutral
2) Make sure oil level and oil pressure are good
3) Make sure car is at normal operating temperature
4) Make sure there is no check engine light
5) Make sure your speedo is working
5) Make sure wires/plugs are tight or wired correctly
6) Make sure vtec solenoid is clean
7) Make sure you have a vtec enabled ecu
8 ) Make sure you actually have a vtec engine
take the car out on a nice empty, quiet road drive it through at least 3 gears and look for the LED , if it lights up (and if it does, trust me it is like finding noah's ark lol) you'll never get tiered of it. and please people get your facts straight before posting.
thank you
