Update:

For the past 3-4 days, i have been driving within Karachi, traffic jams etc. The fuel average has been between 9.2 and 9.5. Not sure if i should be concerned.

I have driven the car 800 km since engine rebuilt. Will change oil filter this weekend and see if it improves.

not bad considering the fact that engine is in break in period after rebuilt. Hopefully it will improve after first oil change at 1000km where the shaved debris will drain out in sha Allah

after 1200 kms please change engine oil & oil filter.
If vehicle is running on tap water, drain and please use coolant.
10+ be expected for city commuting, plenty of roads are bad & traffic is crawling here & there.

over regular commute track of 11 km, time is 55 minutes these days which was under 35 min before the 'Storms Tornados & Hurricanes' destroyed Karachi roads

Nothing exicting to report. The milleage dropped between 7.8-8 in the past 10 days. Mainly i 've been driving in the city with occasional trips to Bahria and Maymar. Engine is fine, no noise. I've added the Liqui Moly fuel cleaner yesterday. Today the average was 8.3. I think it will improve a bit but not a whole lot.

The tranmission becomes noisy around 100KM and above. The new oil which i put in just few weeks ago smells burnt and the mechanic found carbon in the transmission. The gears are not slipping, The lever does jerk from P to N & D.

The mechanic said that its okay to drive in the city but i can have problems on long routes. The low mileage could be because of the transmission. As soon the old oil replaced with new, the problems started.

Irshad bhai is helping and we are exploring few options. I will keep you guys posted.

Sir, the fuel average has been an issue here in Karachi.

this varies from fuel pump to fuel pump. although the roads and karachi traffic are main cause, but the fuel quality from different fuel pumps makes the average worse.

try refuwling the tank from Total pump on shahrahe faisal oppsoite PAF meuseum, or the Total pump from Mukka chowk. i have personally filled from these pumps and found a great difference in pickup as well as the average, whereas normally i was getting it filled from the pump at zainub market always.

the car is alto ags, driven with normal foot, single person ac on all the time, city driven at peak hours in morning and evening.

the meter shows 14 to max 16 and doesnt cross 16 when filled from zainub market pump and the car behaves sluggish.

but the car goes over 17.5 when filled from the mukka chowk or shahrahe faisal pumps, the pickup also feels much better.

do try it. maybe u will feel the difference.

I agree with you on this , was refuelling my car from shell pump opposite millennium mall but felt a visible difference when i got petrol from PSO with Agga Khan hospital on National stadium road

It really Does make a difference in Karachi

The shell opposite millennium is the worst one. even it had got water in fuel few years back during rainy season and it was surfaced on media.

I don't know why but my office maintained manual Corolla is also giving me no more than 7kmpl in City traffic. My 1800 cc Honda Reborn gives a better average.

The engine of Corolla is original and there is no strange noise or bad signs such as black smoke, overheating, or transmission issues.

I think 7 to 8 kmpl in Karachi city traffic is normal for a Corolla 1300 cc sedan. At highway, the car gives an amazing 14 kmpl with 80+ kmpl speed.

Try Hascol Stations, their measurement and fuel quality is far better.

There are 2 hascol over super highway - one over left when going towards maymar - one over left when coming towards city.

Shell at Mazar Quaid is also BEST. TOTAL station at Peoples' Roundabout behind Quaid Mazar over NEW M A Jinnah Road is also better. TOTAL station next to DIG Office at TV Station Road. HASCOL opposite that is Good. Hascol over University road after Kashmir Park (Askari Park - Old Sabzi Mandi) has correct dispenser.

SHELL Millenium is CROOK, Thats why their BIKE & Ricksha fuel dispensers are seperate.

please check from previous owner (or person who mediated and guided you to such car) if this vehicle was raped by the driver(s).

It appears that the vehicle was either used as private limousine doing round trips over long routes with minimum of maintenance and cosmetics were applied at time of sale.

Something seems truly wrong and you have been scammed, 1st engine gone bad, now transmission turns out to be KAPUT

Yes, the car was abused pretty bad.
There is no point of going to the previous owner. My mistake. Should have done the PW inspection.

I am driving the car 100+ KMs daily. Engine is good, the gears are okay for now, not slipping. Hopefully the fuel average will improve in the next few weeks. I try to stay positive.

what i understand about pak wheels inspection side is that they are only checking body shell and interior tyres paint trunk engine bay etc etc.

Their inspectors are not qualified for any kind of mechanical inspection which require driving a vehicle. in short they are kind of barber shop checking on a groom appearance. But how fit the groom is medically (road worthy car) a doctor or hakeem (qualified mechanic opinion) is required.

My experience has always been very good with PW inspections. Its been 4 years of my last inspection and may be they have lowered the standards now, cant say much.
