1 Year Cost Analysis

So as the 1st year of Grande ended, I was curious about what it has cost me to maintain and drive the car in a Year after all the initial costs. So here are the exact numbers.

Total Milage on ODO: 12,106 km

Costs Breakdown
70,550 - Insurance (AdamJee at 2.5%)
116,118 - Fuel
27,576 - Maintenance (5k, 10k oil change + 2 times Balancing/Alignment)
14,560 - Tyre (One of the tyres got badly Damaged due to some very sharp object on Motorway so had to replace with a used one to use as backup tyre. Changed the damaged tyre with the backup one in the trunk)

Total Cost: 228,804

Per month Cost: 19,067

Cost Per Km:
Own Car: 18.9 Rs/Km
Careem: 32-34 Rs/Km

(A rough estimate for Careem Costs from some previous trips both in the city and on longer routes)

Does it make sense to own and maintain a car in 2019 with all these services? Cost doesn't seem to be the biggest factor to make that decision. Convenience and Enthusiasm can be.

*Fuel cost was recorded via the Fuelio app. Maintenance cost via Credit Card Bills. And Insurance via the insurance papers.

**Additional costs for the accessories/car care products etc were not included as they are more relevant in the Hobby category

Doesnt make sense when you have airlift

Well, in any case, a household would always need a car or two but should you use it as a daily driver when you have emerging services like Airlift and Swvl available? No. The cost differential is huge and is a no brainer. My weekly cost from bahria lahore to gulberg is roughly 5000 on car, while its 500 on Airlift. In my case, it did not make sense to me to keep using it as a daily driver

I also had one tyre burst with sharps , its repaired but air leaks about 5 pounds every 2 weeks . Replaced with backup tyre

Still looking for replacement , which tyre did you get ?

What about 10k oil change experience and details ? As I am due to it

Insurance is something you opted for others might not do it, others also might not face any damaged tires so 228k -14,560-70,550

Well if you look at it from my perspective, then insurance and wheel expense were once a year things which you might not do every year so the major cost burden here was fuel other than that your maintenance cost was less than 2500PKR monthly and running cost was less than 12000PKR monthly !
So i believe your car has turned out to be very cost effective

Yep the numbers are all there so anyone can mix and match them to their own scenario or in any way they want to use the above data. That's just some math I did for myself that I thought is worth sharing with others as a rough anchor or an estimate about what is the cost of ownership of a car in it's first year.

Haha not available yet in Faisalabad. Plus I don't have a daily commute all thanks to being someone who works online.

I got the same one used as new wasn't available. A lot of people change their tyres as soon as they get the car so getting one used was my best bet.

I couldn't get mine repaired because of sidewall damage. Not using it even for backup for safety.

However Yoko n michilin are rating with most damage gained by tyres in pakistan due to sharp edges of roads and their thin smart less weightage rubber.

Been a long while!

Came here to quickly update that a tyre shop accidentally broke one of the 70mai TPMS internal sensors.

I ordered a new TPMS and tested to see if I can pair one of the new sensors with the old receiver. Qnd I was pleasantly surprised too see that it did. So in case anyone comes up with the same situation, here's how it can be dealt with

Never occurred to me honestly because the default unit sucks even for regular apps. I just leave it on BT app always atleast that way I see the name of audio playing.

I am thinking about changing it to something that fit just as well but can run G Maps etc. I'm still living in the 90s HU wise

Been 2 years now. Not a single complaint except I've shortened ny car care routine as mentioned above. Its extra difficult to cafe for a car in Pakistan with the current traffic and parking situation...
