Incidentally, Elihu Yale , whose name was given to Yale University in Connecticut , lived in Madras(Chennai) for 27 years as Governor of Fort St.George!.I visited the rooms he supposedly occupied in the Fort St.George complex.Yale University has a center for Tamil studies and facilitates faculty exchange programs for TamilNadu state college professors to teach in US colleges!.Lots of interesting tidbits of history in this corner of India!!....

I dunno how they'll come out as my Samsung camera is great for daytime shots(5.0 mega pixels) but lousy for night shots.Got drunk last night , into the car with friends and went around Chennai and took some pix.I leave for the US in a week's time exactly.I wanna stay longer.....

My aunt and uncle have been perfect hosts insisiting i stay with them instead of in a hotel!.I have had 'fun' driving their cars around.I took a few pics in their garage of their cars, a 2006 Toyota Corolla and a 2002 Hyundai Santro which my aunt is in the process of selling for 1.65 lacs.Also, my uncle has a 1992 Maruti 1000 which is my fav car and is profiled in the main section of this thread.....

More of my Chennai road trip pics.....i drove into the suburbs...was pleasantly surprised....t'was like Queens, NY!!...nice roads, normal traffic conditions, well ,maintained apartment buildings and pleasant folks....i,m impressed!!

Me at a famous indian sweets store....the building impressed me....a formal colonial mansion converted into a sweet store cum snacketeria...was different from the usual...i dread Thursday, when i have to board a plane back to grungy old newyork...
