Fuel average practically achieved for corolla variants

Bro around 11-12kmpl in city...and highway drive gives 15-16 kmpl. Its Lahore traffic with extreme congestion etc

Motorway: 16 km/l at 120 km/h

Following is the list of fuel averages of new shape corolla, in descending order (Best fuel average to Worst):-

1. Altis Grande and Altis 1.8 CVTi - Reasons CVTi and ACIS Tech
2. Altis 1.6 (ECT)
3. GLI and XLI (Manual)
4. Altis Grande and Altis1.8 Manual
5. Gli Auto (ECT) - Surprising but it is due to poor weight to power ratio.

This order variates on the weight, terrain and area of usage. The manuals give better mileage than the ect, the 1.3 return a good economy if cruising at a constant speed with 2 passengers. Many factors determine mileage

Also does aging affect all engines equally or bigger engines mileage decreases more compared with smaller engines?

regarding this line, aging has improved the mileage. when it was new the mileage was not that good but now when it is old, the mileage is comparatively better than when it was new. What is the reason for it.

I second. My 2015 Gli max 8 to 9 km/ltr but after crossing 10K kms on the odo. the mileage improved.

Now the 2018 SE max 8 to 9km/ltr.

When it's new, everything is tight, once it's run a certain amount, everything sets well into their place, hence better mileage

Bought it 0-meter in 2016.

Average in City: 11/11.5 (with AC)
Average on H/W: 15.5/16 (with AC)

Fuel: Shell
Tires: Yokohama
TP : 30 psi

Initially used Total Fuel and average achieved was 10/10.5.
With PSO, it falls down to 9.5 even.

you didn't mention engine oil grade. that also plays a big role in fuel average.

Motorway Average: 15-15.5 kmpl at speed of 110-120 kmph with a light foot.
City Average: Around 11-13 kmpl (Highly dependant on idling period/ traffic congestion)

No, I drive with a light foot.
Motorway fuel average of auto and Manual variants is same in case of Altis 1.6. RPM of Altis Manual 6th Gear and Cruisetonic 4th gear is around 3.1 at 120 kmph. So fuel average when cruising on Motorway is similar. The difference is in city drive and when accelerating into 6th gear.

That's rather pointless then, why opt for a 6 speed manual if the 4 speed auto returns the same fuel average

this is news for me that manual and auto return the same fuel average on motorway.. anyhow how about for auto 1.6 and 1.8 whether it gives similar average in city drive as well?

1. In manual variant, a person will accelerate from 0-120 kmph in 6 Steps while in auto, one will shift in four steps. The case under discussion is for the highest gear only, where vehicle just keeps on rolling.
2. Manual returns better fuel average in Urban/ City Drive and on highways where speed keeps on fluctuating.
3. If a person has maximum driving on Motorway or less congested road/ highways, where one can keep sailing at constant speed, Auto is definitely the best choice.
4. If the routine driving conditions are such that one has to downshift frequently from the highest gear, manual will definitely return better average, as one has 5 steps to play with before going to top gear.

Yes it was a news for me too. I was expecting 1.6 Manual to have lower RPM at 120 kmph speed

Having more steps isn't a plus..... It's just added effort. The 6 speed would have made sense if it returned over 16. I had a manual 1.8 altis 2009, at 115kmh, that returned 15. That was a 5 speed, have you checked other 6 speed Corollas as well?

Yes i agree, it doesn't make sense but probably it's gear ratios are adjusted in lower range. I've another manual and a cruisetonic around me and have driven and inquired from their owners. As per my driving style, Cruisetonic shifts gear at 2500 RPM. In 6 Speed, I shift upwards at 2000 RPM. So lets say, if accelerating upto 80 kmph by keeping the driving style and engine capacity constant, a 1.6 manual 6 Speed will achieve it at lesser RPM range. So talking solely from fuel consumption point of view upto 80 kmph, Manual version has an advantage.

My vehicles fuel average is calculated on Salam Interchange to Salt range patch. On uphill drive towards Salt range, average is15 km/l, on way back (downhill patch), average is 15.5 - 16 at most . Motor Oil being used is 20W-50 (bcz previous owner maintained so). Fuel averages of vehicles mentioned above are almost the same. Cruisetonic owner states that he gets this average at 110-120 kmph speed. I easily achieve 650 km in one tank full.
