HIDs and Narva Bulbs

Hi.

I have a Toyota corolla GLi 2011 and I would like to put some HID's in its headlamps and foglights. Could someone please tell me the price in Islamabad for the white-ist possible colour and instead of HID's what about Narva bulbs, are they better? I also heard that putting HID's in stock head lamps would not be a good idea ( I dont know why) is that true? Would I need to buy projecters too?

In pakistan HID projectors are not available.
The ones available are halogen projectors and are worse than stock housing according to my research!

The best colour is 4300k its whiter than the normal bulbs and not blue.

In stock lamps HID blind the oncoming traffic because of the focal point stuff.

Just stick to your stock setup, don't think about installing HID in your current reflector housing. I'll tell you why it's not a good idea.

Your car's reflector is designed for Halogen bulbs, installing an HID will literally ruin your beam pattern and there will be tons of Glare everywhere if you install HID's in your current setup. Now you don't want this to happen, firstly because your car will be 'throwing' light all over the place rather than focusing it on the road only. Very similar to this:

If you buy projectors from the local market, that would be useless since they are very low quality and are Halogen Projectors (not meant for HID).

That's why it's better to save money and get bulbs that are good performers, you have a few choices here:

• Philips X-treme Vision
• Philips Rally
• Osram Night Breakers
• Osram Silverstar
• Narva Power Rallye

If your budget is limited, then you can just go for Standard Narva bulbs. If your vision still isn't good after installing any of these, then your Headlight Lens might have been a victim of Oxidation, clean it up. Here's a link to a DIY I did to clean mine:

Actually i have a friend who installed projections in his civic95 but still he didnt get the clean cut off. Anyways, if you remember around 2 to 3 years back when people got HID's installed they costed around 15k+ they definetly had a clean cut off and i dont remember anyone installing any housing or anything like that. What were those things then?:S

They never had a clean cutoff, people weren't aware back then, not much people knew what a cutoff was, everybody cared/cares about brightness, regardless of the usability.

Yeah your friend has aftermarket Halogen Projectors then, they never have clean cut offs.

It might have seemed like a clean cutoff but upon a closer look you would have noticed the glare, in some reflector housing glare is not in a large quantity but it's still there.

I would strongly suggest you don't get HID lighting in your City, I have the same car as a work horse and I've experimented a lot with it, installed a HID kit in it 2 years back, result was pathetic so I had to sell it, then I started digging what causes so much glare in stock reflector housings, during this I tried Narva's normal halogens, Narva Rallye, Osram Nightbreakers and currently the car has Philips X-treme vision.

I'm more than satisfied with the Philips X-treme Vision, brilliant bulbs in my opinion, Osram Nightbreakers are superb as well. I will highly suggest you these two bulbs, a much better investment rather than a HID Kit

My beam pattern wasn't very good so I did the DIY with the headlight lens as there were signs of Oxidation on it, after that the cutoff is sharp and the beam is very accurate, never needed an HID Kit after this

If these aren't available here then you'll have to buy them off ebay and import them via a courier.
But chances are good you might find these at one of the above mentioned stores

Speaking of lights, i recently got a pair of Narva 90/100W bulbs for a Mehran. They're pretty bright for everyday driving, brighter than most HID kits and definitely brighter than the stock bulbs. They are not very costly even, 1000 Rs. for a pair. Philips/Osram will set you back around 2500/3000 bucks for a pair. Try narvas first. I think they're 4300K.

Not sure about the availability of these locally. When I was searching for bulbs, I called up Optimum and Speed Auto care and they didn't have anything. Not even Narva bulbs.

for bulbs never buy them from a speed shop kind of thing, look for a proper bulb retail store in the automotive market. You will find them there.

The best life of bulbs I ever got was from genuine Koito or Hella bulbs, Koitos you can buy new but Hellas are difficult. You can get them from old car headlights too. Just clean them nice and good with neat alcohol and dry them before installing. Make sure the contacts are very clean.

There are about 3 shops in Plaza market Karachi that sell Osram and Koito bulbs - they even have the small bayonet and fishie bulbs in different wattages in those brands. e.g. the fishie bulb in most car speedometers are W3W (3watts), there is also a bulb of the exact same shape but is called 194 which is 5watts meant for parking lights or number plate lights. If you use that in your dash you will have very bright illumination but will melt the meter. In Karachi I have heard - bright se bright tareen bulb chahiye (I wonder which school those guys went to as they have no idea why their stuff keeps melting)

another piece of advice, do not buy blue tinted bulbs as it filters out the blue light and reduces visibility, your eye sees all colours and needs to see all colours specially if you are trying to focus on a distant object.

90/100 in a mehran - ZABARDAST FIRE HAZARD.... You will defnitely enjoy the sight of fireworks and flames from the front of the car and if you are running original wiring then under the dashboard too.

Instead of shoving high watt bulbs why not rectify the real problem - that is proper light spread.

Best place to get them is from Plaza.
Last time I checked even Nasir Motors had a good collection of them.

But I wouldn't suggest Narva 90/100W bulbs, reason being exactly what Mr.Xulfiqar stated above.

I mean it's common sense, when your car's wiring is designed for 55W lighting, WHY would you install 90/100W bulbs without even thinking? It's a disaster call.

Clean up the lens and grab some 55W Narva or Koito if you want to stick to the stock setup.
