Honda vs Toyota and Why?

For me its TOYOTA.

Reason:
According to JD Power and Assoc. for non-luxury brands Toyota is on no.2 (hyundai is no.1) in overall quality satisfaction and honda is on no.9.

well guys this is my expereince that i would share with you...

i was recommended a civic 95 with a d15 engine by many of my friends and i found the car to be amazing in

pickup, luxury and drive but their wasnt a single day that the honda didnt bugged me... i used to get it

maintained as and when required and my bills for the maintainance were very large...but my love with it

compelled me to keep it.

i got its bushing changed by the honda classic and the bill was around 16000Rs and after a month the rear

right bushing was gone and hence eating the cars tire off..i got it replaced again.....

anyways at exactly 90,000km i got the timing belt replaced and at exactly 1,00,000km the water body gaveup

and guess where it was located....it was on the timming belt.

after another 10,000km all the wheel bearings gave-up and i cahnged all four of them....

the average it used to give me on petrol was around 9km/litre.......
i sold the car at 1,10,000km

the problems i faced are

1. WAter body
2. Bushings of suspension
3. Radiator burst
4. Bearings gone at 100,000km
5. Fuel average=poor
6. DAily problems mostly with ignition
7. Standing at roads (coz of heatup caused by the damn radiator overflow bottle)

now i bought a toyota 1.6gli 4AFE and said goodbye to the honda

the corolla is near 200,000km and the only thing i have spent on it is

1. Timing belt
2. Head lights (coz they got black)
3. Front under carriage for 5500Rs ( coz of accident)
4. Power Steering pump
5. Clutch and pressure plate

the car gives me an average of 15-16km/litre and goes like a rocket. i do miss the ride that honda had but

who cares as the maintainance bill is in limit.

and yes i am in no mood of selling it

CONCLUSION

1. The per kilometer cost of Hondas is very high
2. The Reliability FActor is almost nill (atleast in mycase)
3. Everyday chores cant be done on a Honda
4. Road-side Help for honda,s isnt available
5. IN-case of emergencies DIY can be easily performed on a Toyota coz the layout of all the components is

in reach
6. Toyota is very compatible ( many models but standard eq)
7. The chasis is designed logically and doesnt rattle
8. The Engines are fuel efficient and dont break-up
9. Torque at all RPM levels
10. Toyota,s give service for years and years

so i prefer a toyota anyday anytime and in any condition whether it be the 4x4 track or the metalled one and personally i dont feel ashamed if toyota gets its engines thru yamaha . what they are doing is they are incorporating the best things a company makes and integrate them in a way that an ultimate machine rolls out

@Racerf1, I dont know what exactly made you start this thread, we can all love our cars, but seems to me that this thread is distorting the facts!
All the fuss about Yamaha making engines for toyota! we must understand how companies work, who has interest/shares in what, and how to develop the best product!
Toyota offers better products, if someone does not agree to this, then even the sales figures wont change his/her mind! With a History of better products, its now the biggest automakers of the world. It also has a research budget which honda can never come upto. you think that honda would not like industry cooperation, because its the best engine maker of the world? YES, it would love that, but would some company like to join toyota with its shares or Honda???
Toyota is girly?? I must laugh, try telling that to the taliban AHAHAHHAHA and try offering them Honda instead! is CRV girly or the RAV4, what about corolla 2.0d and civic? Sadly I cannot compare any honda´s product with Hi-lux, landc...
Toyota lags behind Honda in the market!? Toyota has been introducing whole market segements for decades, what about the 1st corolla, what about hybrid (pirus)? what about lexux LS hybrid! Brothers, Toyota´s size as a company is not something it has inherited or something .... or ??
Maybee Honda is an "engine maker" trying to get into the cars´ market, how about this prespective!

because honda is more stylish, its appealing to young people, easy maintanance, plaenty of after market addons (civic,integra ,accord).
my experieace with honda is good.
bought first civic in 1997.it was a new thing in pakistan the crystal lights and sporty looks wow.even it looks cool after 10 years.nothing happened to the car paint,engine,wheels,brakes(recently got them chaecked they were good as new)honda is quality for sure.
then we bought the new civic 2005 they were pretty good as compared to the toyota corolla xli
the exi has got power steering ,windows,sensors,cd changer, perfect view of the road.great shape.
but the corolla has not changed its shape for 5 years
and people are still buying 2002 model rolla its pitty.
xli wich only in two colors white and black .awkward pillar of the rolla blinds the view of the driver.

'honda is better than toyota' is an opinion that is true for pakistan only and most of us say this because of relatively lower quality of corolla in our country than the civic.

outside, the facts are different. toyota is the largest japanese car seller in north america..which is the world's biggest car market.

this post is all about opinions and they are not always based on facts. just my thoughts

around 1984, I fell in love with the Honda Accord, and the car was seeming to be a wooper, compared to the corolla 82! Cresseda 82 had tough the same gadgets but honda seemed much more sophisticated! That was then, and now...

Not that Honda 84 has almost disappeared from Pakistan where parts were a bit of a problem (a ´bit´ means that they were availabe but were expensive), even in the USA, this modell has met the same ending as in Pak, but 82 corolla and 82 cresseda still rule. Try searching ebay (usa)...

Maybee honda has a styling problem, we love it when its new and inn, but hate it when its gets old. Maybe its the same fate which the new (video game colsole like) civic would meet, we would hate it once the new one arrives .... (lets see)

yar if u see aenglish movie or documentary filmed in USA U ca easily notice civics passing by even the 92-95 models think before u leep,honda is not only liked here but also in the developed countries.

As Farooque has mentioned that we still see more Toyota's on road than Honda's. So my answer is Toyota.

I myself drive 86 corolla but still I dont feel outdated because I see plenty of them on road in good condition. But my counsin has 85 Honda Civic, and he sure seems old fashioned (just an example)

even if some engines have been developed in collaboration with "Yamaha", this is not because Toyota cannot manufacture engines (as one may be lead to believe).

Such collaboration between companies highlight "expertise exchange", "syenergetic product development". This guaranties better products, better products equalise to a better market share, reputation and reliability!

Racerf1 Bhai...Its all about what each company focusses on!..
If Toyota does not produce overly aggressive looking cars, it doesnt mean that it doesnot have the potential to produce them!...
Toyota is focussing on Consumer satisfying, long-lasting, Practical and Peace Of Mind giving cars!
Its focussing on expansion and it has always been a leader in the Industry!...It never stood behind Honda!

It does not produce cars with designing done by a "16 year old", and does not supply engines in "City Usage" cars in which at 3000rpm u wouldnt be able to tell whether your engine is running or not!

Getting engines done by Yamaha doesnt mean Toyota doesnt have expertise in this segment!...This is just how they bring costs down!

Nissan Otti is a rebadged Mitsubishi Kei car (probably Ek wagon)...This doesnt mean that Nissan cant engineer this car!

SMart forFour is based on the Mitsu Colt!...Cant Mercedes do it on its own?

Peugoet and Citroen have created Crossovers based on the Outlander!...Do you say that they dont have the technical expertise to create their own Crossover?

Most small Chevrolets (Epica/Aveo/spark..etc) are rebadged Daewoos!...Cant chevrolet engineer them on their own?

DAimler Chrysler has always been using Mitsu engines in alot of cars!...Do you mean they cant engineer their own "engines"?

These are just ways of cost reductions and sharing of engineering techniques/expertise!

And yeah...Toyota is now the most well known Car maker...They dont need to make boats!
They've proved themselves in everything related to "4 wheels" (GT racing/Offroading/Sedans/HAtchies/Sports coupes/Commercial Vehicles/and now Formula One!!)which Honda hasnt!

Now if there's anything left for Toyota...It would be tanks!...Sadly, they dont come in 4 wheels..:P..lol

Had toyota been making cars for only 17-25 age group or concentrating on extracting 200hp from 1.8-2.0 litre engines...They would definitely be doing better than what Honda is doing now!

i dont get why so many of you think of the civic and corolla only when honda is measured against toyota. civic maybe a better car than the corolla overall...higher sales and reliability and toyota sells more than honda worldwide. lets not forget the camry, sienna and other top selling models.

the point is that both are good and reputable. the size of the pakistani market may be 1-2% for both of them so it doesnt matter.

Honda is a nice car too but Go east go west Toyota is the best, no one can beat Toyota in reliability, durability, quality and performance I am beating the shit out of this car for last 5 yrs and still running awesome I am aiming for half million km out of it before disposing it off. original motor and tranny.

Off topic, but one thing I don't understand is why do people buy cars? To keep it as an antique so you can claim how your car still has the same stiff Corolla ride after owning it for 20 years or for driving pleasure of the present?
