Trevor McKamie, an Air Force EMT from Hope, said that he and his brother were on their way to church in Spring Hill during the brief rainfall around 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 15 when the wreck occurred. They were travelling south on Highway 174 between Hope and Spring Hill when McKamie said his black and green Chevy Camaro hydroplaned around Hempstead 1040, causing him to lose control. The car took out a mailbox before leaving the road, sliding sideways and striking a power pole, causing the pole to split and doing major damage to the rear of the car.

I was fond of dunlop sp 9000 out of nothing and ended up with hydroplaining many times
Now i have YOKOHAMA and never experienced it again

Great.. But this does not eliminate the danger. Every roadway with water will behave differently. Even on the same road . Even within the stretch of one mile... Reason being depth of water . Speed are factors.. Not a single tire manufacturer says. Its eliminates the danger of hydroplaning. Yes proper tire selection can reduce. Just to share

I have best tire on market all season costed me 2 times more ($385 a tire) then a very good tire. Even that don't eliminate the hydroplaning..

As I said earlier . There is no alternate to safety..

I experienced it on 13nth august when I was travelling from isb to lhr.road was wet.and when ever I cross a pit of water or change lane car start drifting.i was travelling b/w 120 to 130kmph. I usually travel at 130kmph to 140kmph.

it happened with me once 4 years bak wen i was new with my markx....a civic guy was trying to race me n wen i floored there was a puddle of water ahead which swerved my car from the back almost came inch closed to civic but thank God i left the throttle didnt brake hard otherwise braking hard wont straight out ur car....tht was my first lesson to learn to control rwd car

experienced this only once, was doing 60 on a rainy day when a stretch of road full with water appeared, the car at once shifted to right, at that moment i didn't paid attention and carried on, but now i understand after going through this thread. now i try not to drive in rainy weathers, but when i have to i maintain a good 30-40 km/h figure.

i xperienced this thing last year when the car next to me suddenly applied a brake and then i also did the same but my car got out of control even the speed of the car was increased...but with the grace of Allah no accident took place

Year mid 80s, Car French Chrysler, speed about 100kms, night time, empty road, raining.
Travelling from Bangkok to Phuket, did not know that the river ahead was flooded, when i reached the bridge, my car flew
Start of the bridge there was less water, i was lucky because in the center there was about 2ft of water... and my car stopped, felt like I landed on an aircraft carrier.

i have done this intentionally and unintentionally , I find the best way to regain control is to put the car in higher gear and gently apply the brakes

OH Yes twice it happened to me once travelling towards lake district on Yorkshire dales and second was travelling towards Scarbrough i lost steering and control over car at once but the best policy in such case is NEVER APPLY BRAKES OR UR DONE.... Just let the car go if you will turn steering or press brakes as soon as the car gets the grip back ull go upside down in no time.....

I experienced it only once but scared me to death! i was doing 120 on motorway. was overtaking a car, it had just stopped raining and i could not see that the whole of the overtaking lane was full of water for a good 50ft or so. when i hit the patch, i splashed water like 15ft high on either side, almost blinding the poor driver to my left and damaging my water splash fender sheets i tried to turn back to the center lane but the car didnt respond at all for like 1-1.5 seconds. it felt like i ve lost steering control over the car. as soon as the patch ended, the car suddenly turned to the center lane. i slowed down to 80kmph just to THINK what had happened to me. my heart beat had increased n that driver on my left overtook me, giving me angry looks

Almost same happened but after i turned to centre lane the car went side ways on 20 degree angle and was going towards left which would have resulted in car going off the motorway. What ever i tried nothing seemed to work. Last resort was counter steer and hand brake, even that did not work.....
Eventually car regained grip in parking lane because of rough gravel and rim hit the side walk. Lucky me only damage was bent rim.
