That's exactly my point. Either buy a used part or have it imported and wait a few weeks. Not something that is practical for an average person. We can keep arguing for the sake of argument but the bottom line is a car or in fact, any machinery with no local support no matter how good the build quality or advanced technology it has, is not worth spending your hard earned money on. Such cars or machines may only suit hobbyists or people with a lot contacts, time and money to spend.

Let me tell you my car had O2 sensor cel replaced it with used one and I have driven 60k plus after that and everything is fine.

But in case of even PKDMs, especially the current models, I do not think that each and every spare part is readily available. Yes, they ask you that they will need some time to manage it, and then they import it eventually (and even for old models like 90s, I think, local support is a bit difficult).

On a similar analogy, if a spare part of JDM car is not available (let alone be readily available), and if some shops, importers are there, which can import you that part, then eventually baat to phir udhar hi aa gye.

Ha'an ye hai k wo shops / importers aapko dhoondnay parein gey, and dealerships are easily visible to everyone, on main roads.

Of course, irrespective PKDM or JDM, all spare parts come at a cost.

When I owned FAW V2 in 2017, a biker hit and broke the left tail light. I visited FAW Islamabad motors, I-9, many times, but they did not have it, nor they were able to manage it, and the price they quoted was somewhere in 12-15,000 PKR (I cannot recall the exact amount).

Since I required it, I contacted my colleague in Shanghai if he could procure it and bring. He brought, and total expenditure was I think somewhere in between 2,000-2,500 PKR.

When I told the dealership that I have sourced the light myself and then regarding price, they were shocked and said on a lighter note: Sir humein b mungwa dein!

Usually between PKDM Vs JDM, many of us do not stay neutral, rather biased and do not think at the other aspects. Of course, all have their Pros and Cons, but in favouring one, please do not negate other, or rather make it zero altogether.

You won't believe, but some people here do not know about coolant / antifreeze! Then can you expect from them, that they will try sourcing parts?

Back in the days when I lived in pk, i also had a repair business usually for "weird problems"

Most of them with automatic transmissions or wiring/diagnostic/drivability issues.

Customer had an auto 1.6GLi (ae100 chassis made in pk)

Car had a strange issue with momentarily losing o/d and tcc while driving for more than 1 hour.

I diagnosed it with my pressure test rig (this car has fully hydraulic auto), and then after some more tear down found the end case piece O rings were pinched and leaking a bit.

I dealt with toyota eastern motors and gave them a call, they looked up the O ring and friction plates too, I also had them get me the pink transmission sealant from toyota.

I got the parts the next evening as I called late, the parts were genuine toyota and had markings of bin no. Aisle stack and order processor code of IMC.

I have also got parts for land cruisers the same way,

Repeated it with honda, suzuki and even mercedes benz (they probably had a picture of me in their office as most irritating person)

The little bit requirement was the car must have been sold through them, meaning no personal import bullshit

FAW itself is a stupid manufacturer not at all interested in car sale they are more into their trucking business (e.g go into any FAW dealership and check their part catelog) some have hyundai oil filter some toyota some are sticking santro brake pads some swift

Now let me tell you what I really mean, I know a person who recieved a box packed (brand new) Toyota 2c engine From Toyota Pakistan. (Indus motors) he blew his old one and claimed a new one from inusrance

Imagine the similar scene from a grey import the biggest so called dealer hazrat here the person who claims that he will get you anything from scrape yard) is on 3rd engine on his own personal belta 1.3 eating oil because 20 days check warranty never worked for him

Now you see Atlas had airbags on their all cars recalled mostly 8th gens had this issue do you think All the grey imports hybird civic got a updated part?

Thats the manufacturing support you need their are ton of "qwality mai best pakistani se 100 darje achi" latest shape alto(s) roaming on road with bad throttle body (as original design was bad Suzuki japan updated the part through a recall) their owners cant ask Paksuzuki to change it for them

Also car you buy from local industry is made for the enviroment you live in eg cars rust a lot in Pakistan because "diesel safai" if you pop hood on any kei car made in Pakistan mehran coure alto etc they all had better weather protection (painted engine bays and stuff) whole their japanese counterparts never had)As they are seen as disposeable tissue paper there.

Now decide what type of car you want a similar car with a good weather protection or a car with some small things like headlight adjuster and some more gimmiky feature which is going to rust out in a decade (considering cars dont depreciate as quick here)

Always remember in 90's all these khyber alto 660 (taxi shape) etc were parallel sold and had equal fan base both were sold in taxi schemes as well

Now compare the no of 660cc alto you see on road and khybers that the end product of parts support

That is the manufacturer support we are looking for here I know OP is gonna come here and claim he can get updated part frpm scrapeyard with 1/4th price but there is no fix to ignorance specially when you know he drives a accidented local fixed grey import car and then advocates on quality

Its really amazing and surprising. I hardly think anyone can be able to manage brand new, box packed engine of any JDM car.

I do not think, 20 days, 30 days, or even few months warranty can work, or should work! and I also pity those who even give warranty.

This is engine, not some small toy or any household, domestic item, for which warranty may work for 20-30 days.

I believe for engines, warranty must be in thousands of Kms, at least 50-60,000 Kms, with conditions that; 100% genuine oil + oil filter used, oil drained after regular intervals, and recommended grade poured., and no seller gives this much warranty for engine, because they are not confident.

How can they even give warranty of a used, Kabuli engine, when they might not know its past history? By looking at just the physical appearance, or short term start up and use, I do not think it can be concluded that engine is 100% OK!

Best is to either source new one (if possible), or rebuild / overhaul strictly as per OEM requirements, and genuine, OEM parts.

YES! Compression test can give fair idea, but still, used engine cannot meet reliability of a new engine, or a rebuild / overhauled engine strictly as per factory defaults, and genuine OEM parts, gaskets, etc.

Scrappie are smart. They fill cylinders with gear oil, so solid compression is read.

But there is another issue, compression only shows the air pumping quality of engine, you can end up with a bad oil pump deal too, specially if its a cell type oil pump and the engine sump is dragged or smashed.

we got cheated @ser_gtr had selected an engine from 7 units did compression test at the yard using our own compression tester jumper cables & a battery. in under 5000 kms the engine failed

old stock engine was overhauled to factory specs and it is working to date, with just a valve seal leak
