Bhai, in my opinion, there is no harm now after rebuild in switching viscosity of Engine Oil. you can easily switch to 10w40 ZIC Full Synthetic or Total 5w30 full synthetic.

2 mm Gaskit is OK and 5w30 even will not escape.

Regarding his theory for calculating 3,000 is actually 5,000 due to idle period, don't worry it will not be too much difference.

Now in some cars, engine oil changes after calculating number of hours like generators where oil change interval is based on number of running hours.
Remember, 80 Km = 1 Hour

Also use these oil change intervals with usage of good quality oil filter & air filter:
Mineral oil: 5,000 Km
Semi Synthetic: 6,500 Km
Synthetic Formula: 6,500 Km
Fully Synthetic: 8,000 Km

after break-in period is over. buy any local brand of 5W-30 Shell PSO Total Aisin from brand station or trusted shop.

am sure you are better educated and able to read write over this forum to seek guidance. Your mechanic does not have that advantage.

make sure you are using thermostat valve in system, cooling fans connected to run automatic

a new engine will provide you minimum of 100,000 km trouble free service if you keep track of lubricant. When you rebuild the engine did you changed the transmission fluid as well , change it now if its not done earlier.

In my opinion, for a locally overhauled suzuki engine, 10W-40 is the least one should go for. Pak Suzuki themselves use 10W-40 for brand new vehicles and they don't recommend for going above this grade - even the engine warranty voids if gone for 5W - 30 grade.

you must have noticed all suzuki vehicles have a generic SGO Sticker 10W-40. The new alto you have & the Wagon R earlier.

Yes, and even the Mehrans came with the same. Pak Suzuki know better the build quality of their engines. BTW the picture of the head just loaded on my PC, and @babarhyd is right in saying that this engine should run on 20W-50 with the depoxy repair.

In 2009, after getting the first two oil changes from Toyota - we switched to Zic XQ on a Daihatsu Cuore CX Eco and kept using the same oil until the car reached 60k kms on the ODO. I was not too much in the oil things at that time but one of my friends did an extensive research on the science behind the different grades of oils and the oil categories like API-SN, SM, SL, SJ etc etc and it was his cuore which he experimented on. For me, even today I won't go and take any risk by changing the manufacturer recommended grade without having complete grasp on the oil knowledge.

I will be soon starting a thread relevant to oil selection and using of different techniques (like engine flush) to extend the life of my KZ-TE diesel engine, right now doing my background study to have good basis to start.

If these plugs have the same specs and requirements as of DENSO for your car's engine, then continue using them. No need to change IMO.

I think mechanic is partially right, i.e. very thin oils may not be recommended for this engine; design of oil pump, clearances, etc. Similarly the ones with latest API rating, i.e. SN / SN Plus, etc. too.

The recommended may be 10w-40 or 15w-40 but needs to be checked and confirmed.

Regarding mineral Vs Fully synthetic, no problem, provided API rating and engine oil grade is same for both. Still, in your case, mineral or semi synthetic would work fine.

Get Thermostat valve installed ASAP.

with a non oem 2 mm head gaskit & freshly faced (&mated) engine block / head it is best to start with low viscosity engine lubricants

block = main engine with piston sleeves
mated = head torqued to engine block
faced = shaved / machined for un-even matting surface

why is it good to go with low viscocity. Is it because of all new parts used to keep them running smoothly w/o any wear & tear?

thinner the oil at cold start quicker it seeps into rings / cylinder / valves / main & big end bearings etc etc
