Legal action to be taken against the use of HID lights in vehicles

In a bid to reduce the number of road accidents, the City Traffic Police Lahore has decided to take legal action against the use of HID lights in vehicles.

Captain (R) Liaqat Ali Malik who is the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore has declared the use of HID lights on vehicles as illegal owing to the visibility issues it brings due to the higher intensity of light. Legal action will be taken against anyone violating the law.

High-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps have been a nuisance for all the road users in the city for a long time. HID lamps emit light that is almost two to three times brighter than the conventional headlights with higher intensity as its name suggest. These headlamps can easily turn into a painful experience for the drivers coming from the opposite direction and also create a blindness hazard. Although the HID’s make the view much clear for the drivers as they can see further down the road but the extreme intensive nature of emitting light is a threat to others. Therefore, keeping in mind these issues and a social protest by the general public, City Traffic Police Lahore has decided to start taking legal action against its users to enforce the law with its full effect.

Therefore, if you are a resident of Lahore and use HID’s on your vehicle, this is the time to give up on them or the police will take care of it. Don’t forget the safety of others and follow the traffic laws.

Laws are useless when they are not implemented without discrimination. People will fight with traffic police, make calls to their relatives in power and be on their way. The first step is to fire each and every police official, hire new qualified officials with training and make them independent under justice system, not under ministers. Sadly our government is too corrupt to make this happen.

Therefore, this article should say; people without power links should stop using HIDs.

What about LED lights that also emit brighter beams but are not HIDs with blaster.

You're wrong, LED'S are as bright as HID'S.

wrong use of any thing is actual problem banning LED/HIDs will not solve the issue where peanut head junglee comes with HIGH beam and blinds you completely with his normal halogens as well...

Much appreciated, however, the action must not be against stock, OEM HIDs, LEDs or Halogen Bulbs, but against the use of High Beams!, irrespective of bulbs category.

Sometimes, I do not understand that what has gone wrong with the people here? that almost every other person is using High Beams in city, Highway, etc. for no apparent reason! I have been driving cars continuously since 2017, and never used high beams, ever! (Never felt need of it anywhere) The light is so bright that if you are travelling from opposite direction, you suffer, or if that car is travelling behind you, you suffer! and you can't even look in the back view mirror due to ridiculously bright light.

I personally think that action must not be against OEM, factory fitted lights, e.g. vehicles designed for HIDs, LEDs and Halogens should continue working accordingly, but on modifications; using aftermarket non-compatible accessories, using HIDs, LEDs in vehicles designed for Halogen bulbs, and especially, High Beams!

If anyone is driving his / her car on high beams, driver must be immediately heavily fined and punished to sit before his / her car with lights running on High Beams, and continuously look in to the lights, for at least 3-5 minutes. Only then, people might "Sudherr jyein"!

rather than taking action against HID cars ..police need to seal modification shop where HID is sale than people will back to normal yellow lights

Normal yellow light in which visibility is like very low when someone coming from opposite side of the road is using high beam. Its not about HID/LED/Halogen lights, its about their use. I have seen people using full beam even with Halogen tubes, driver on the opposite side of the road can't see anything. So instead of banning new technology(as new car technology is already scarce in Pakistan) it would be better to educate dumb drivers to use low beam on road. First we can't tint our windows glass and now this.... AJEEB. After some time they will ask us to remove windshield because SECURITY REASONS.

I am writing down first a dislcaimer, so that nobody interpret wrongly what I am going to narrate in the next paragraph. And that disclaimer is that I try to obey all laws including traffic laws as they are. Although I have some reservations but that doesn't mean that I have any issues in obeying them. And I don't in anyway endorse the use of hi beams where it is illegal or a nuisance to the other road users.

Ok, after disclaimer, I also want to mention that my cars' high beams once became the reason which saved my life.

I was travelling at about 60 kmph at around 8 pm on a rural two way road. A truck at an unusually high speed was coming from the opposite direction with very bright high beams. I dipped my headlights but he kept his beams on high. When we came very near and about to cross each other, I don't know how, but I think Allah wanted to save my life, I switched on my cars hi beams and a bunch of iron rods (sariyah as we call in urdu) protruding from the back of truck to the right and covering almost all of the road were in front of me and about to hit my car. I swerved my car off the road to the left on Kaccha shoulder. Even then a few sariyahs hit my cars right front fender and driver side door. The damage was like somebody cutting cheese with a sharp knife. I stopped my car on the side. It took a good ten minutes in which my "Ausan" came back. The truck driver didn't even bother to slow down and he was nowhere to be seen afterwards.

That day, if I hadn't switched on my cars hi beams, I might not have been sitting here writing this.

Even now a days, at night time, if you keep your lights on low beam, on most of the rural roads, it is difficult to detect or even avoid the sugarcane loaded tractor trolleys.

Is there someone who can request these sugrarcane trolleys to obey the traffic rules?

Why car owners with stock HID can use HID and car owners without stock HID can't? First of all you gave a big RIP to car modification. The actual issue is how people use HID/LED/Halogen tubes, i agree with this part that lights should be at low beam in cities and highways. This is the actual issue. The part you added "Stock" vs "modified" in that statement my brother(in a respectful and ethical way) you killed the whole modification concept. Why can't a person install HID/LED in his car and modify it if it doesn't come in stock? Why not? as far as he uses it properly. You might see dumb drivers with so called "STOCK" HID's using on full beam so the issue is not with lights, its with dumb people due to which others also suffer bans like this.

I agree, in some situations especially on the roads, if one person breaks the law like over loads or uses high beams for instance, then the other have to break the law as well in order to save his life. Who wants to get blind while driving?

Firstly, there are no 200 watts HIDs. They will produce enough heat to melt your headlight. And please compare OEM 35W LED headlight systems with OEM 35W HID headlight systems. With the exception of colour, they are almost the same when it comes to brightness.

Finally a good step against them. This was much needed as number was growing day by day.

It must be implement on everybody. Mostly big people use these lights & traffic police never take any action against them.

I never understand why people use HID'S in halogen housing. It actually worsens your visibility.
