You're right about the immobilizer system. I also own a PKDM swift dlx. Have found its immobilizer system to be quite good.
Again, I am not an expert - but for this new civic, there are sensors even in the hood and the boot. If you try to open any of them without the normal way, and with the immobilizer activated, the car will start honking - it keeps honking for 30 seconds and then with intervals of 10 seconds I think. So how can anyone "by pass" wires then (as was mentioned by another member on this thread)
Try it - sit inside the car, lock the car with the key. Wait for about 10 seconds, and then open the door - and all hells gonna break loose 
Make sure you don't do it at a time when someone is sleeping - learned that the hard way
