its what my dad likes plus a wood gear knob and steering completes the look.

no.. D mean that the car selects its gear automatically.. its mean the gears will go upto 4.... automatically.... it makes no difference

The reason I asked this question is I recently bought a W210 which has the gear with same shifting mechanism, d,4,3,2,1. The previous owner told me it is 4 speed auto whereas when i check the vin no it comes as 5 speed auto. as per wikipedia it is 5 speed auto.

When i am going at around 70km/h in D and shift the lever to 4, the RPM suddenly increases to around 25,000 and the car suddenly picks speed. It seems like a downshift to me. Technically if the gearbox is 4 speed, shifting from D to 4 should not make any difference. But there is a difference.

Can you please check on your car and share your experience ?

1st ... wikipedia is not a reliable source thats what i am taught in university
2nd... i am in london.. so cant really test and check.. neither i cared to check when i was there always drive auto..
3rd... might be a problem with your transmission. can be fixed.. from inside opening the gear box.

if i put it in 4 it doesnt down shifts.. thats what i remember.. u can only select gears manually..

this is button place on the bottom left hand side just next to the kneee.. under the sterring wheel.

.... looks OEM.. where u can switch light colours between dark blue or light blue.. i prefer.. light blue.. and you can adjust brightness.

check the vin no. or check the trans dipstick, if its a regular removable dipstick its a 4 spd auto with a S/W switch on the modulator (the modulator would be a vacuum control valve on the left side of the transmission).

The 5 spd auto would have a fully electronic trans that shifts with the TCU command. That shifter is found on the 5spd auto and has a movement range only till D - the rest are electronic switches to select the gear ratio.

anyway - for brakes I would suggest the OE brake lines and new brake fluid with genuine OE brake pads - nothing compares to that setup, stainless braided teflon lines are not all that.

Sir, the OE odo is classy and a piece of decency. Why replace it with aftermarket??

Blue dials with Red needles were the charm when I was in college. Sadly, only Proton Saga offered them as a standard (along with a louder exhaust). Not saying there's a comparison. But it looks flashy.

The gear lever is P, R,N, D, 4,3,2,1 and switch for W and S also. same as this thread's w202 one......If 4 speed why both D and 4?

your car is not trip-tonic hence its 4 speed w202 w210 and few others share the same.

the car is rapid on stock.. i am going to race it... its for. dads use gt road. motorway and local.. its got the punch... just installing the exhaust will increase horse power.. 10 i think will add up thats a given.. its not a cheap taiwan original amg part so it makes a difference.. plus.. going to put new spark plugs and aftermarket plug wires. which will increase some more power and finally k&N air intake .. better throtle response with that.. i was driving it on gt road. from jhelum to lahore and vise versa.. nothing got near me.. new accord land cruisers. forgets civics and toyotas.. it eats them like a cup cake.. i was doing 160 .. 170 eassy on gt road.. and 190-200km/h. on motorway with ease...

i cant have the car too low.. i live in cantt they have metal things that come out the ground... on the exits.. they already scratch my car from below as its too low... i am installing 18s... amg stagged see pics on thread i already have the wheels need to ship them to pakistan.
they will be 245's that the usual normal profile on the w202.s i can only put wider on the back as they are staggered but that will increase drag and fuel comsumption.. so i will put 245's all around.. dunlop sport maxxx .
automatic tranny on any car is heavy .. but it isnt an issue with my car its rapid.. stock.. i got work done on tranmission. from a friend who used to work for MB uk.. i have trackion control on off and.. quick gear shifts.. setup ourselves.. i am burning rubber on corners and round abouts .. especially in ISB so much fun to have a rear wheel drive car.

interesting, so this is your daily driven car? i know someone who has a W202 C280 and he started off like you but ending up turbo charging it, added coilovers and what not; and most likely pushing close to 500 bhp which is alot for a w202 c class. You don't seem to be a power junkie so lets stop it there but remember that 202 and 201 c classes have alot of turbo and superchargers available for low cost (unlike the 203 and 204 c class). I saw your wheels, they look nice but if u are going to stay with 18s then id suggest you increase your horsepower more to carter to extra weight gain. Usually people remove the rear seats, the spare wheel, the metal under sheet of the trunk which doesnt seem alot but makes alot of difference as you are loosing over a 100 lbs. Overall have fun with with it as the 202 is one of my fav. mercs but sadly only 1 or 2 and including yours actually stands out (performance wise) Usually people who buy a mercedes are boring and just leave it as it is. Kudos to you.

these cars are amazing..
and its not modification its customizing. add ons.. OEM... all original.

sadly yes, almost 70-80 percent tuners here are into JDM which i am sick of seeing and hearing to be honest. Very rarely would you catch a glimpse of a tuned/modified mercedes or bmw. Dont get me wrong we have a few of them but there are a dime a dozen.

thanks my friend i agree with you. but i had several reasons to change it to this one. the main one is KM/H in big letters.. my dad drives it daily and his eyesight is getting weaker by age. hard to look at the meter. with small letters secondly in sports variant of w202 u get white dials....anyways. so its more or less OEM look.. third reason is. the lights of guages dims slowly.. i couldve swapped with LED but i dont like the white light.. so this Option of PLASMA was the best. as its the letters that glow not the bulbs. i kept the needles stock.. whatever colour they were.. now its more visible. doesnt hurt your eyes. and you have 2 colours. and also u can adjust the brightness according to your specification which you cant on a stock one. lets say if its too bright or too dim.. here are pictures of a port variant.. i added chrome trims on because stock orange light was coming out from corners.. plus they look calssy not cheap.. who ever saw it in person was impressed.

as i told before its a daily driven car for my father.. i live in london he lives in pakistan. . people can do whatever they like to their cars but for everyday driving it has enough power and punch over all the other cars on gt road.. V8 landcruiser couldnt get past me neck and neck forget other pakistani saloon cars. . ecomany and power this is ideal. mercedes never put turbo as stock on these engines if you install it it puts too much pressure on the internals and fucks it up. the engines were not made to be turbo charged if you get what i mean. my dad isnt going to race and to be honest roads and traffic in pak arnt quality to drive them to their potential. my wheels are nice only 20KG each rim. and they are light weight original ///AMG. not the taiwan rims that are sold in pak. i know in karachi there is autocross scene i have never been to karachi and dont plan to go. i am looing forward to do standard OEM upgrades or something similar. because MB produced all them things after alot of testing and research i never intend to retro fit a turbo which is not made for the car initial.. i wll put 245's standard width tyres wouldnt make much difference.. just ride will get a bit bumpier.. these are same as any other cars. the reason from them not to customise these cars is lack of parts. i source all mine from UK germany and usa.. and send them to pak.. thanks for your opinion though. cheers

if i plan to do something in future for horse power. i will put a C43 ///amg engine v8 and convert the entire car to c43 as factory spec. nothing will come close after that. i respect originality.

i used to own a JDM 1998 civic myself few years back. those things are too common but if well kept are lovely cars. and powerful. i sold mine at 675000 .. and that was 5 years ago. did lots of need for speed upgrades it was my first car. no ricing though.

i wanted my father to have an executive car reasonable price, better fuel economy, comfort and looks.. i couldnt find any better than this. and he was looking one for himself anyways. it looks special on the road as you hardly see another car one like this. usually they are in shattered condition or riced up.. i went to MB dealership near my house to get Floor mats and they guy there said to me dont ever sell it . .its best MB ever produced and similar models in this year e class . s class etc..

engine pic dirty this is when i bought that car.. the engine is still as new.. usually in these cars the engine covers are rotten.. or paint gone etc.. mine is still good as new as everything else in the engine buy no signs of rust what so ever.. my neighbour has w204 the latest shape. and it had rush on bolts in engine bay.. its obvious.. the built quality produced in 1999 and 2010. 10 years later..
i wil post clean engine bay shots later. which looked lovley after detailing.
