Great to note the progress.

One suggestion.....why dont you get the fabricated floor pans powder-coated??? The only problem you shall face is when you weld it to the surrounding areas.....those areas would have the powder coat damaged. But the flat areas shall remain protected for good. The damaged areas can then be carefully prepped, primed and painted over like you plan for the whole floorpan now.

I fully agree that if floors are powder coated .....They are going to last a life time ....As you said that it will be burnt by welding at joints...so half powder coating and half Priming/painting will not be a good idea....Normally rust starts at joints first because due to welding/ heating ....metal becomes more prone to rust....Its less likely for the straight sheet to catch rust....After completion of undercarriage.....we will bring it back to bare shiny metal ....seal the seams thoroughly with sealant compound....Double prime it with DUPONT OF SEIKEN Primer ..then double coat of colour.......
Same treatment on both sides ....underneath and above ....so I think It should last for pretty good amount of time....At least in my life....:)....Hassan May keep it or throw it away ...... It will be up to him...

Complete rear floor pans...

See the sad situation of the rear end of this Herald .....Rust...Rust and more Rust..and a poor patchwork by a previous owner ....which again got rusted...and died...specially at inner wheel arches ....just notice..

This is left rear wheel arch and floor pan under the rear seat....in sorry state....when we removed rear seat,there was a piece of metal (rusted) on these big hole....
not even welded but Attached with steel putty...

Base of "B POST" Piller is also gone

A closer look of the right rear wheel arch and floor pan....

A "PROOF" .......that it is an original convertible......You can see two locks on B POST Pillar .....The second one (lower) is only fitted to Convertibles to give more strength when door closed to minimize body shake...normally found in convertibles...

I asked our house helper Abdul to remove Brake and clutch Master cylinders...Just to see if they are in working condition or will have to order from UK...along with other parts...

Oh I forgot.....One was already removed...(brake) and clutch cylinder is being removed...

Clutch pedal is also being removed by unbolting these bolts....

First of all we planned to make this much piece of the floor pan under the rear seat....on both sides ...cut these rusted parts and replace it....

order a gallon of waxoyl and a can of penetrol too from UK, penetrol removes the rust and waxoyl is the wax coating your car needs in its nooks and crannies to prevent rusting out.

British cars are not known for having good steel to begin with.

But then we decided to make this whole floor pan under the rear seat and replace......a very big panel ....and difficult to make with precision and in ONE PIECE....
Because COMPROMISE....A BIG NO...

Thank you Zulfiqar bhai for being here ....an honour.....Will definitely order the two items suggested .... You are right that these cars are prone to rust....But another contributing factor is ...that this is an EX.Karachi car...spent all its life in Karachi ....I suppose thrown away somewhere...then some one saw it ....Repaired it (not restored) and sold....
The one I had and still remains there are still rust free and in very good shape...
It is a 50 years old car ...after all...

May be slow Imran Bhai....But no compromises in details....Actually main part of enjoyment is "MAKING" these cars....
For driving.........Z3 is Better.........(sorry for this statement being classic car buff...:))...specially in my case with bad back...you know...
