As SER said - speed is not the end. What use is a car that is undriveable - specially if you have a car that is all nose heavy and its chassis dynamics are that of a horse cart. e.g. an Ariel Atom has equal power/weight ratio to a motorcycle yet the motorcycle still loses in a circuit race as the Ariel can literally glue itself to the road - its suspension and chassis is built that way.
or - lets take a more civil example, why does a corvette lose to a porsche carrera whilst having twice the displacement and lesser weight.
Anyone can make a car go fast in a straight line - but thats no fun - the real fun starts when you turn the car in a sharp curve and stuff literally starts to walk sideways inside your car - controlling the car in a perfect line and coming out clean.
