Looks like Yaris Ativ X 1.5 takes the cake....

Packed with features and Better Fuel Economy(Loses in Space a little but overall is better than Altis)……..besides a newer model car as compared to Altis 11th generation.

Don't know when corolla is going to launch its twelfth generation but till its launch.. Yaris Ative X 1.5 is hands down a better vehicle than the current model Altis 1.6.

Just an advice for anyone who intends to buy altis 1.6...… Don't buy it yet and wait for 12th generation Toyota Altis to be launched,otherwise you are not only going to loose on the newer features but will also loose on market value once newer generation is launched(Which might be sooner than you think)

Yaris is a Vitz with a Boot.

No its not better than altis 1.6. If features is the onky criteria then 660cc jdms should be rated better than civic/grande. Corolla is a proper sedan and we don't know about Yaris suspension yet.

Can you please specify why altis 1.6 is better? I am honestly not trying to troll here... am really interested as I want to book a vehicle and was kinda torn between ativ 1.5 and altis 1.6. But after looking at all the specifications have decided to go for yaris. I like the way you have described three categories that should be considered while choosing a vehicle and lets compare Ativ and Altis in these categories....

1. Power... Yaris has a smaller engine as compared to altis 1.6 (I am aware of the Torque and BHP figures of both the vehicles and on paper 1.6 is more powerful). Having said that I was looking for a benchmark that can distill these figures and found two namely Top speed and Acceleration. I chose later as I thought it would be more appropriate for the comparison of the two vehicles in question (It is imperative to mention here that I am not a petrol head by any means and might have chosen poorly). By going through many videos i was able to determine that acceleration of both the vehicles is similar. Please refer to following two videos that i chose for comparison purposes: https://youtu.be/YecOR0kItQ86 for Ativ 1.5 and https://youtu.be/9kk2mv1I3FU5 for Altis. The ativ in the video was 1.5 manual as I couldn't find acceleration test of CVT variant. I dont know whether CVT version will be better or worst but that's the closet I could get to the acceleration benchmark. From that I concluded that in terms of Power both of the vehicles are similar. Added bonus is that when it comes to economy Ative completely murders Atlis. So simlar power and better economy in Ativ.

2. Comfort... Front and Rear suspension of both Ativ and Altis is the same (MacPherson Strut and Torsion Beam) as well as steering systems(EPS). Logic dictates drive feel of both these vehicles should be same. Adding on to the comfort Features, Ativ Comes equipped with Acoustic Windshield which should translate into more noise curtailed cabin as compared to Altis. So it seems comfort wise Ativ is better.

3. Space... Only category in which Altis is better than Yaris. More Space in terms of cabin space and probably more boot space as well.

So in my books Yaris 1.5 X Ativ gets Two wins out of three, which make Yaris a better vehicle as compared to Altis 1.6 11th Generation and we are not even talking about all the goodies yet that are not even present in Altis.

Am I still to believe Altis is better choice? If yes please elaborate why..... I genuinely need to know. And please don't say " Cuz altis is altis that why its better or Its like comparing city with Civic". Civic and city are not comparable in any way (Power, comfort, space and features are better in civic i get that but I don't understand why we cannot compare Ativ 1.5 with Altis 1.6 11th gene'ration)

You need to understand that there is a reason this fully loaded Yaris is cheaper than a 1.6 Corolla.

The platform is different. Yaris is based on a hatchback.
Same suspension setup doesnt mean same comfort or drive. The chassis is totally different.

It can never be as comfortable as a Corolla.

Indus has planned and carried out study for launch of a sedan not a hatchback. The frame DNA is different for both variants hatch / sedan

Altis has different class segment bhai..size and design matter alot in overall drive aesthetics. Confort cannot be same..else IMC would have discountinued 1.6 itself. Across the world u cant compare yaris with altis..1.5 Ativ is a very nice car on paper but sheer size and weight of Corolla give it an edge. 1zrfe is better and powerful...cvt is not the only benchmark bro. Altis has better stability and overall road presence. At anytime of the day..a decade old camry with less features than Grande will still feel better than a Grande...

the lengthier the wheelbase, the more comfort a car is as it doesn't bounce as much as any variance on road surface can be distributed over a larger area.

Many vehicles use torsion beam, including city, khyber and few others which are known for stiff ride. I'm expecting a ciaz / vitz like suspension, not as soft as corolla but still adequate comfort and not a harsh ride like you know which outdated design 1.3 and 1.5 car

Grande has this acoustic glass windshield, noise isolation isn't much different from other versions of corolla.
There are other things to consider as well, smaller cars have more tyre noise, there might be difference in thickness and quantity of soundproofing sheets beneath mats, dashboard and firewall etc. but i'm sure like all toyota's Yaris will fare well in all variants.

I'd recommend to go for Yaris as corolla will be replaced with a newer gen.

This is based on the Toyota B platform - the Prius Aqua uses it too. It's hilarious that people think this is a Vitz with a boot slapped on it.

I don't get why people are personally hurt when this is compared to the Corolla - it's a subcompact econobox, the Corolla is a compact econobox, nothing special about it. In fact, I find this whole notion of people thinking Civic, Corolla etc are "fusst class lugxari car" quite hilarious. Doesn't matter if they cost 30 lac or 30 crore - it doesn't change their underpinnings.

Why do people here judge a car just by headlights, brake lights, and grill only? People liked "Reborn" (lol) mostly because of its front fascia. Ever noticed it's side profile? It looks squished; plenty of cabin, hardly any boot or hood. The City is even worse - it looked like someone added the boot as an afterthought.

Most modern cars are ugly IMO - they have to be, due to crash regulations etc. Personally, I don't think that this Yaris looks half bad for a modern car.
