You're not paying too much for a corolla. It's just that the inflation is really high and add to that the government's slice in the pie and you get your prices. Also, for what we're paying, compared to other manufacturers in this country, the corolla is great value. Reliable, functional and looks nice.

Tiny micromarket semi manual assembly line pushing a microsized amount of cars cannot swap out a stamping press or retool the whole enchilada just because someone wants “feechur” like standard rear cam, lane assist etc (which are now mandated by federal governments of some countries) without paying price.

Pakistan is a poor country. With very little buying power. Prevarication is the order of the day here. With very little development in terms of education, technology and industry. The government could mandate stuff all day to make itself look good and progressive but it won't amount to much because of the crummy system in this country, and this can mostly be attributed to it's people. We cry about features and high tech while fully knowing those come at a higher price, which fewer people could afford. Calling names is a national past time. Forget about the core issues that underline a problem, just throw a few words around feeling real smug and not make an effort to understand and rectify issues.

Thank you for explaining my point. I also believe that our economy is too small. And it is the prime reason that these assemblers have never achieved the objective for which they were here in the first place. We have hooked our hopes with the wrong industry for 70 years now. Things will remain the same even if we wait for another 70 years. It is high time that we look to other avenues.

Yes, we are a micro market. Let us buy cars (a commodity) from where there is economy of scale and quality.

Also, what value add these assemblers. We are already importing 90% value of parts.

Price is 8 million due to import protections. If duties and taxes reduced to the same level as other imports this price will be not more than 3~4 million.

All of us screaming about feature rich cars here can anyone tell me how many maintain their cars according to manufacturer recommendations tell me who purchased new catcon for their car instead used acid to kill catcons. How many change necessary fluids according to recommendations? Most of us run to scrapyards and all of us keep on screaming for feature rich cars. I see scrapyards full with people owning those luxury imported feature rich cars

Please don't state wrong facts.

Only cars have more than 300% duty. No other products that you have mentioned have such protection.

Just reduce the duty on cars to the level of other imports like electronics which is not more than 35%. These assemblers will not survive.

We produce cheap food. This is the reason why wheat is always smuggled out to our neighbours. All agricultural products that we produce are cheap. Cars are smuggled into Pakistan. Ever heard of wheat, sugar, rice, fruits being smuggled into Pakistan.
