The exterior of the 1st Generation Mercedes SLK sports a unique design language. The front end houses angular trapezium styled upswept headlights, a black angular trapezium shaped grille, dual slim narrow rectangular styled air intakes, a small slightly outward sticking bumper and standard circular fog lights. The roof is a power convertible hard top that can be raised and lowered within 20 seconds into the rear boot. The rear end houses triangular styled side swept taillights and dual exhaust tips. Options include a rear spoiler. The SLK 32 AMG features a wider and more aggressively designed front bumper, side skirts and a larger rear bumper with sport exhaust outlets. The overall exterior of the 1st Generation Mercedes SLK features a fairly distinctive design language that is able to stand out amongst its competition.

The interior of the 1st Generation Mercedes SLK comprises of gray plastic trim pieces. The front and rear seats are covered in a choice of black or cream leather.
