After Auto Policy (2016-21) took effect, Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) devised a new policy regarding its decades-old. The company retired the obsolete MK-II Suzuki Cultus in 2017 after the reign of 17 years and then Mehran, aka ‘The Boss’ in 2019. Strangely enough, Pak Suzuki launched MK-II Cultus in Pakistan when it was officially discontinued in the global market. In April 2017, PSMC did the same, launching an old 2nd generation Celerio with a local name, ‘Cultus,’ when it was already unveiled in the neighboring country in 2014. Nevertheless, Suzuki’s Celerio, an entirely new vehicle, got successful sales right from the start. In the last 6 years, Suzuki Cultus remained the best-seller for Pak Suzuki. After the Pandemic, in FY21-22, the company sold whopping 23,169 units of the car, surpassing the previous record of selling 22,763 vehicles in fiscal year 2018-19. And when we are enjoying 2nd generation Cultus, India got an all-new 3rd generation of car in November 2021, flaunting new dimensions, power, and design language. The Price Jump At the time of its launch in 2017, the base variant VXR came with a price tag of Rs. 12.5 lac. Whilst VXL was priced at Rs. 13.91 lac. Months after, in December 2017, the company unveiled the AGS variant, and the price of the top variant was Rs. 15.28 lac. Within a span of 6 years, Cultus got no upgrades and improvements, but the price has increased by 200%. Today, the base variant of the car costs Rs. 37.18 lac, whilst the price of the VXL and AGS variant is 40.84 lac and 43.66 lac, respectively. In 2017, the dollar was valued at Rs. 105, and today it is around Rs. 285. Meaning, the Rupee depreciates 171% against the mighty dollar. Whereas, the car witnessed an increase of 198%. Today we present you with the owner's review of yet another gem; a 1994 Suzuki Swift, which locally came as the Cultus. This car is also a Netherlands model and was cleared from Karachi port after several years of resting in a container. This is the first generation Swift, offered in 2 engine options. This particular car has a 1.0-liter engine producing around 53 hp and 76 nm of torque configured with a 5-speed manual transmission. The vehicle is in immaculate condition, and its features and quality will make you question the fact that it is a Cultus. Engine Although this car has the same 1.0-liter G10 3-cylinder engine which came in the local Cultus, it is rather different from it. As per the owner, the engine block is the same, but the head is different from the local car. Moreover, this car's gear ratio is way longer, enabling it to achieve a higher speed at relatively low engine RPMs. Salient Features Differing from the local model, this car comes with a list of features despite being the base variant. These features include a standard air conditioner, factory-fitted fog lights, a manually operated sunroof, a rear wiper with a water jet, an audio system, storage spaces like a card holder, and much more. Build Quality One of the major differences the owner feels between this car and its local counterpart is the build quality. Starting with the interior quality, the plastic trims feel sturdy, and the dash is a soft touch, there are no flimsy consoles like the local car, and the materials feel solid. The exterior is also different with different bumpers, while the owner has also installed aftermarket rims. Another reason for its solid feel might be that this car weighs 1225 kilograms which is more than local sedans. Fuel Average As per the owner, the fuel average of this car is even more than the Mehran due to its long-ratio gear. The car catches up speed without the need to rev it, which enhances fuel efficiency highly. The owner gets more than 15 km/l within the city easily, which is very impressive for a carburetor engine. Price The landed cost of this car came at around 9.20 lakh rupees, although it is not registered yet, so the registration cost will add up to the total. Today we're back with the owner's review of a Static Suzuki Cultus. In this review, the owner shares his experience driving this dead-dropped Cultus and tells us about the modifications he has made to his car. This is the 3rd generation which was launched in 2017; this particular car is the VXL manual variant. It comes with a 1.0 liter 3 cylinder engine producing 67 hp and 90 nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Purchase Decision The owner's parents bought this car for him for his university travel. At first, he wanted a Toyota or a Honda car, but his parents brought him the Cultus because of its better fuel economy. So he decided to modify his car according to his liking. Modifications Although this is a pretty standard car, the modifications done to it are what make it stand out. Most of the changes done to it are cosmetic and enhance the vehicle's aesthetics rather than performance. The owner has installed a body kit and adjustable coil overs to drop the car according to his liking, 8 JJ 15-inch rims with low profile tyres. Moreover, the wheels are cambered for a desirable fitment, while other changes include LED custom-made tail lights, high mounted spoiler, black wrap on the bonnet and roof, a straight exhaust pipe, and much more. Drawbacks These modifications have surely made the car look a lot more exciting, but the drawbacks also come with it. Firstly, the car scrapes the road continuously at this height and cannot be driven over 40 to 50 km/h. The coil overs and camber make the drive uncomfortable and compromise passenger comfort. The owner must bring the car to its stock height every now and then when he has to drive it properly. Highway travel is dangerous if the car is at this height with the fear of a tyre burst, and the negative camber reduces the tyre life as the tyres wear out quickly from one side. Fuel Average The owner gets a fuel average of 15 to 16 km/l within the city but this is mainly due to the inability to go over a certain speed. The car is driven very carefully; hence it is never highly revved, which makes it fairly fuel-efficient. Spare Parts As per the owner, spare parts are readily available in local markets, including genuine parts and aftermarket modification parts that he has installed.
