The 1st Generation Jeep Wrangler was introduced in 1987. The 1987 Jeep Wrangler is a front engine four wheel drive mid-size Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). The Jeep Wrangler 1ST Generation is available in 5 different variants Base, S, Islander, Sahara and Laredo. The Jeep Wrangler 1987 was introduced in the United States as the directed replacement for the Jeep CJ. The Jeep Wrangler 1st Generation shares a number of parts with the original Willys Jeep and was even built in the same factory as the Willy Jeep. The Jeep Wrangler was available in 2 versions as well 2-door SUV and 2-door convertible. Production of the 1st Generation Jeep Wrangler lasted for 9 years, the Jeep Wrangler was available to purchase in the years 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and the year 1995. The price of the Jeep Wrangler 1987 was competitive when compared to other cars in the same class.

The exterior of the 1987 Jeep Wrangler features a fairly boxy and eighties design language. The front end houses square headlights, a large chrome grille, dual rectangular fog lights and an outward sticking bumper. The rear end houses square taillights and an outward sticking bumper. The roof on the 2-door SUV is a standard hardtop roof while on the 2-door convertible the roof of the Jeep Wrangler is made of cloth and goes over the protective roll cage and can then be folded away into the rear cargo space.  All versions of the Jeep Wrangler 1st Generation feature slightly different styling the Base model offers no chrome trim and soft trim doors. Sahara, S, Islander and Laredo trim offers full hard trim doors, tinted windows, chrome trim and exterior body colored panels.

The interior of the 1st Generation Jeep Wrangler features the use of black plastic trim pieces. The front and rear seats are covered in fabric. Standard features include a 2-speaker stereo speaker system and a heater. Features on the higher end S and Islander features rear seatbelts, air conditioning, interior door panels with pockets and a stereo speaker system with cassette input. Laredo trim offers a full leather interior, rear removable bench seat and a rear speaker sound bar.
