The exterior of the 2nd Generation Jeep Wrangler features a unique and distinctive design language. The front end houses circular headlights, a large rectangular grille and a outward sticking bumper. The rear end houses square taillights, the spare wheel and a hinge pull out door. On the 2-door SUV the Jeep Wrangler features a normal hardtop roof but on the 2-door convertible it features a cloth retractable roof that is able to be stored away in the rear while not in use, the cloth material is available in two colors Black soft top and Dark Khaki soft top. All variants of the 1996 Jeep Wrangler feature identical styling except for the Unlimited Rubicon that featured wider body colored front sills and larger wheels.

The interior of the 1996 Jeep Wrangler features the use of black plastic trim pieces. The front and rear seats are covered in fabric. Standard features on the base SE and X model include 2-speaker stereo audio system, power steering, power lock doors, an analog clock and air conditioning.
