The 1st Generation Toyota Probox features a fairly boxy design language. The front end houses rectangular side swept headlights, a black colored rectangular grille, a large bumper with horizontal black colored accents running on opposite ends and a slightly angular air intake. The rear end features rectangular stacked vertical taillights, an outward sticking black colored bumper and a standard case tailgate. All variants of the Toyota Probox feature identical styling in every aspect. The facelift variant of the Toyota Probox featured a new more modern design language. The front end houses sleek narrow side swept taillights, a small rectangular styled grille with dual inlets, dual slim narrow rectangular air intakes, a trapezium air intake and an outward sticking bumper. The rear end features rectangular stacked vertical taillights, an outward sticking bumper and a standard case tailgate with a rear windscreen wiper. The overall exterior of the 1st Generation Toyota Probox features a fairly boxy design language that is familiar for a Japanese MPV.

The interior of the 1st Generation Toyota Probox compromises of black plastic trim pieces. The front and rear seats are covered in fabric. Standard features on the F include air conditioning, front power windows, power steering, power lock doors, cup holders and a tachometer. Standard features on the F Extra package include front fog lights, the rear windscreen wiper, allow wheels, privacy glass, and rear power windows. Options include rear fog lamps and satellite navigation. The overall interior of the 1st Generation Toyota Probox offers very good interior space in both the front and rear with a large practical cargo capacity in the rear. The interior also provides ample comfort and noise insulation.
