The exterior of the 1st Generation Land Rover Defender features a very boxy and classic design. The front end houses circular headlights, an outward sticking black colored bumpers and a rectangle front grille. The rear end houses stacked vertical taillights, the spare wheel.  All variants of the Land Rover feature next to identical styling apart from having varying exterior dimensions in order to meet their requirements for which purpose they will be used. The overall exterior of the 1st Generation Land Rover Defender features a fairly boxy and classic design language but is still able to stand out amongst its rivals.

The interior of the 1st Generation Land Rover Defender is designed to be functional and modular due to the various range of variants. It features a good amount of interior space though features below par comfort and noise insulation in the cabin.
