Today, we have SUVs of many colors and brands. But, back in the day, Pakistan had only a handful of off-road vehicles. One of the options was the 2nd generation Mitsubishi Pajero, one of the best SUVs ever made, and we miss it.  The 2nd generation Pajero came to Pakistan from 1995 to 2000 as an imported model. The people who lived through the 1990s were lucky enough to witness this beauty on the roads. But the car didn’t get the appreciation it deserved. That’s because most people were crazy about the Land Cruiser 80 Series. In our eyes, 2nd-gen Pajero was far better than the Land Cruiser LC80. Here’s why. Mitsubishi’s first official SUV In the 1990s, Mitsubishi was a giant car brand. But all of its products were in the sedan and other segments. Pajero put Mitsubishi on the SUV map. It was their first SUV and a damn good one. The company had done its homework to build this car, and it really showed. After seeing the first and second-generation Pajero, people started to know Mitsubishi as an SUV brand. Toughness of an off-road SUV Although Land Cruiser 80 Series was definitely more reliable than 2nd-gen Mitsubishi Pajero, Pajero had marvellous off-roading capabilities. It was uncompromisingly tough. A vehicle that could go anywhere.  Luxury of a premium roadster On the other end of the spectrum, the Mitsubishi Pajero was a luxurious vehicle. The cabin was so spacious; it could easily fit 10 people. The interior was no less than a premium sedan. The king-sized driver’s seat sat above most car models of that time. Rear air-conditioning vents, faux-wood panels, many cup holders, a six-disc CD changer, leather seats, and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) were some of the feature highlights.  Less money, more value The best part about 2nd-gen Mitsubishi Pajero was that it cost much less than Land Cruiser LC8 and provided more value. It was an off-roading beast and a luxurious roadster.  If you haven’t experienced the joy and thrill of this iconic SUV, you can get a used 2nd generation Mitsubishi Pajero for around 11 to 40 lacs (depending on the condition). 

Today we have brought the owner's review of the Mitsubishi Pajero 1993 model. This model was very famous in Pakistan during the 90s. This under review car is three-door Pajero. Engine and Variant: The owner told us that this car 1992-93 model, with 2500cc petrol engine. Originally the car had 2.5L diesel engine. Upgradation of Mitsubishi Pajero:   "I have upgraded this car's exterior, interior and engine back in 2009 from Chaman, Balochistan, the owner said. Explaining the process, the owner said that he bought a 96-97 Pajero from an auction and placed it as-it-is on this car's frame. "Interesting fact is that the mechanic who upgraded this car, drove this car from Chaman to Lahore," the owner said. He stated that the mechanic has done a great job as the car hasn't caused any issue in last 11 years. Here, we want to tell our readers that it is legal to change the car's interior and exterior, but it is illegal to change the whole frame of the vehicle. Furthermore, if you change the engine of your car, notify the Excise department and update it on the vehicle's book. Price:  The owner said the purchase and upgradation of this car cost him around Rs1.2 million. Is it Value-to-Money?  The owner said it is a total value-to-money car because he cannot buy a car with such specs and features in this budget now. The owner said he has not thought about selling it because he likes this one. Fuel Average:  The owner said earlier this car's fuel average was 4.5 kilometers per liter. "Then I got it tuned, and now its intra-city average is 6.6km/liter with AC," he said.  Interior of Mitsubishi Pajero:  The car has a Japanese car's climate control system installed from 92 Pajero. Furthermore, the vehicle has dual vent AC with the second one under back seats, with its controls behind the armrest. The sitting space in front seats is spacious, while the back seats are straight and have less leg space, hence, not suitable for a long drive with 4-5 people. "Three people can easily travel in it on the long route, while five can easily sit for short  journey," the owner said. Moreover, the car has airbags, which were originally not installed in this model. Boot Space:  According to the owner, you can easily adjust three large suitcases in the trunk, and you can also install a roof carrier for more luggage. Resale Value:  The owner told us that although this is not a car for the common market, but those who like it will pay good money for this vehicle. "I planned to sell it last month with Rs1.8million demand, and I got the offer of Rs1.7million, but then my plan changed of selling it," the owner said, adding that this shows that this car has good resale value, but among a specific group of car loves. Parts Availability:  The owner said that the parts of this car are readily available, but they are relatively costly. According to him, the reason behind the high cost is its old model and less number of this car in the local market. Brakes Reliability:  As per the owner, although the car does not have ABS but it stays steady, if its brakes are applied at high speed. "I have had one experience, where I applied emergency brake on 145km/hour, but the car didn't get out of control or waved on the road, which is a great positive point of this vehicle," the owner told us. Known Fault of Mitsubishi Pajero:  The only issue the owner has faced is that its steering has a little bit of play, but he doesn't want to take it to the workshop because he fears it can create new vehicle problems. Furthermore, the diesel engine of this car had a known fault of seizing at constant high speed on highways, but the petrol engine is more reliable. Oil Change Charges:  The owner gets its Mobil oil changed after 4,000 kilometers, and it cost him Rs6,000. "If I get its oil and filters changed, then it cost around Rs7500," the owner said. Customs/Legal issues:  The 1992-96 model Pajero is notorious for facing customs and other legal problems. The reason behind this is that a large number of unpaid custom fees were present in Pakistan at one point. However, the owner said he hasn't faced this issue because he has all the papers of this car.  Final Verdict on Mitshubishi Pajero:  The Mitsubishi Pajero still got its fan following in Pakistan, as a specific group of people still drives it and loves this car. If you can maintain this car properly, this is an excellent vehicle because of its powerful engine, small size, and reliability. This review is of the 1.8L Turbo variant of the Mitsubishi Lancer. This is a very limited model, and it is difficult for one in the market. The owner bought this car roughly two months ago, and this is 2012 import from Japan. This car cost the owner around PKR 1300,000, and he was also looking for a Honda Accord CL9. The owner found this unique car on PakWheels.com, and he found this car in Islamabad. The owner is generally content with this car, and he thinks it has all the necessary features that a sedan of this type should have. Exterior  The headlamps and taillamps are both halogens. The halogen headlamps are smoked that gives the car a performance-oriented look. The previous owner has also installed coil overs in this car that does not come standard. The alloy rims are low-profile and blacked out that further enhances the sporty nature of this car. The exterior color is white that goes well with black rims. This car does not have a sunroof, whereas there was a local variant (GLX) that came with a sunroof.  The exterior design language is not very polarizing and has many soft edges. Both the door handles and the side-view mirrors are body-colored. The owner has also installed side skirts and a front lip to give the car a low profile and sporty look. The body parts are similar to those of the locally-manufactured Lancer. Therefore, their prices are low, and availability is high. Interior  Certain parts of the interior in this car are hydro dipped, especially the center part of the dashboard. This gives a sporty look to the interior. The seat upholstery material is a fabric which is good for hot summer months in Pakistan. The floor bed is not flat at the rear, and there is a small bulge that can make the middle passenger a bit uncomfortable. Other interior features include power windows, power steering, power mirrors, and retractable mirrors (not present in local models). The boot space is similar to that of the local variants. The performance of the air conditioning unit is optimal and suits the summer months best. Moreover, the air conditioning unit is manual. The sound-proofing in this car is better than that offered in the local cars. This car does not have an infotainment screen and has an old-fashioned audio unit adjusted into the dashboard. Performance  The engine that comes with this sedan is turbocharged petrol 1800cc GDI engine. This comes in Lancer GSR, and it is the same engine that comes in Mitsubishi Galant. Most of the Lancers that came from Japan had a 1500cc engine. The locally-manufactured ones had either 1300cc or 1600cc engines. On aggressive driving, the owner gets around 7 to 8 km/l with this car in the city. Spare parts for this car are readily available; however, the prices are a little high. The previous owner changed its fuel pump for PKR 25,000. Spare parts are expensive since this is a rare and unique car. If you are doing routine maintenance and care for the car, it does not create much trouble. The owner changes engine oil after 3,000 km. It has a 4-speed Tiptronic transmission and a sports mode to provide you a boost of power when you need it. The speedometer in this car is limited to 180 km/h. Recommended Shell engine oil in this car is HX5 10W-40. One known fault in this car is that carbon builds up in the valves of the engine. This affects the performance and life of the engine in the long run. This car does 0 to 100 km/h in around 7.5 seconds, which is good for a car of this type. Mitsubishi Lancer 1.8 Turbo 2006 Owner's Review - video:  Comfort and Handling  The seat comfort of this car is also good because the seat cushion is soft. The leg space at the front is optimal for both the driver and the passenger. The legroom at the rear is also optimal. Even after getting coil overs, this car is fairly comfortable in daily commutes. The suspension is fairly soft over bumps, and the ground clearance is also optimal for Pakistani roads. However, the front extended lip of this car can rub off the ramp of the garage at times.  At speeds, the stability and handling of this car are fairly good. Safety There are two airbags: one for the driver and one for the front passenger. Other safety features include Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), which is only present in the imported Japanese models and not the ones that are locally-manufactured. The performance of brakes is optimal due to the presence of ABS. Verdict This is a car that is loved by driving enthusiasts, and not everyone buys this car. Therefore, the resale market is not as active as that of other popular sedans like Corolla and City.  However, since the prices of new cars have been increased manifold, cars like these are now in the budget of a normal citizen. If you think you can take care of this car and can afford a bit expensive spare parts, then this can be your ride as it provides comfort and optimal performance for a daily commute.
