What's New For 2025?
It's been the second year that the Lexus GX 550 has been on the market. The redesigned model has received few minor updates. A power-adjustable steering column is now standard across all models. Each GX consists of memory settings for the driver's seat, steering wheel, and exterior mirrors.
The off-road versions i.e Overtrail and Overtrail+ now feature a one-inch suspension lift for improved obstacle clearance and a set of auxiliary switches for enhancing functionality.
Lexus GX Specifications
All Lexus GX550 trims comprise a standard twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine that delivers 349 horsepower. The horsepower is more than the previous generation V-8 and the Land Cruiser's turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all GX models have full-time four wheel drive.
Furthermore, the Overtrail and Overtrail+ trims are designed for serious off-roading. They featured 18-inch wheels with rugged 33-inch all-terrain tyres, an aluminum skid plate, an adaptive suspension with improved wheel movement, crawl control, and terrain-specific drive modes.
Lexus GX 550 offers smooth, quick, and responsive ride in the city. However, its hood seems to flutter while driving on the highway. It has firm and stiff ride quality if it comprises larger wheels. The steering is crips as you will expect from the taller, and boxy design of Lexus with a plenty of body roll.
The Overtrail is an off-road vehicle with exceptional visibility for viewing obstacles and for navigating through tight spaces. The transfer case in this model allows low-range gearing without locking the center differential. This makes for a tighter turning radius. The Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS) can also disconnect the front or rear anti-roll bars independently. It improves stability, reduces head movement, and boosts traction of Overtrail on rough terrain.
Regarding the acceleration, the GX Premium can accelerate from 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds. It is one-second faster than the previous generation of GX. It's quicker than the Land Cruiser's 7.7 second second run as well.

In terms of performance, the Lexus GX's 4.6L V8 engine achieves a 0-60 mph time of approximately 7.8 seconds. The Land Cruiser Prado, equipped with the V6 engine, reaches 0-60 mph in about 9.0 seconds. The Land Rover Defender's 3.0L inline-six turbo engine is the quickest of the three, reaching 0-60 mph in just 6.3 seconds, while the V8 version does so in 5.7 seconds.
For towing capabilities, the Lexus GX has a towing capacity of up to 6,500 pounds (2,948 kg), providing ample strength for hauling light trailers or small boats.
