The 1st Generation Mitsubishi I was introduced in 2006. The 2006 Mitsubishis I is a mid-engine rear/four wheel drive subcompact kei car. The Mitsubishi I 1st Generation employed a rear midship setup in order to improve safety by devolving larger crumple zone areas and increasing interior space without enlarging the overall exterior. The Mitsubishi I 2006 won a total of three different 2007 Japanese car of the year awards. The 1st Generation Mitsubishi I lasted in production for 8 years, the Mitsubishi I was available to purchase in the years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and the year 2013. The Mitsubishi I is available in 3 different variants S M and G. The exterior of the 1st Generation Mitsubishi I features a unique and distinctive design language. The front end houses sleek narrow angular upswept headlights, a very curved and angular front fascia, a trapezium air intake, flared wheel arches whose design integrate into the front flat designed bumper. The rear end houses top mounted angularly tacked side swept taillights; rear flared wheel arches whose design integrate into the rear flat designed bumper and a standard case tailgate. All variants of the Mitsubishi I feature identical styling in every aspect. The overall exterior of the 2006 Mitsubishi I features a unique and distinctive design language that allows it to stand out amongst its competition especially in the kei car market.


The interior of the 2006 Mitsubishi I features the use of black and silver plastic trim pieces. The front and rear seats are covered in fabric. Standard features include power steering, power lock doors, power windows, trip computer, stereo speaker audio system and air conditioning. Features on the higher end M model include power mirrors and multifunction steering wheel. Features on the higher end G model include automatic climate control. Options include satellite navigation and a reversing camera. The overall interior of the 1st Generation Mitsubishi I features a good amount of interior space for a compact kei car of its exterior dimensions; it also offers a good amount of interior comfort and refinement.
