The 5th Generation Porsche 911 was launched in 1997. The 5th Generation Porsche 911 is a rear engine rear/four wheel drive sports car. The 5th Generation 911 featured a brand new design language and a completely reworked set of engines. The 5th Generation 911 shares very little components with the 4th Generation 911 as it was based on a brand new chassis platform and came with new water cooled engines. The 911 was available eight models, Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera S, Carrera 4S, Turbo, Turbo S, GT3 (coupe only), GT2 (coupe only). The 5th Generation 911 is also available in 2 body styles coupe and cabriolet. The Porsche 911 5th Generation lasted in production for eight years. The Porsche 911 was available to purchase during the years 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and the year 2004. The price of the Porsche 911 5th Generation was not competitive when compared to other models in the same class available in the local market.
Exterior
The exterior of the 5th Generation Porsche 911 featured a drastic change in design language. The front end houses circular shaped headlights and a large rear bumper, the 911 Turbo, 911 GT2 and 911GT3 feature larger front bumpers with larger air intakes. The rear end houses trapezium styled side swept headlights and a retractable spoiler while the 911 Turbo features a small fixed wing on the back and the 911 GT2 and 911GT3 feature a full sized wing. The 2-door cabriolet version features identical styling to the coupe apart from featuring the cloth power foldable roof that can be stowed away in front of the rear engine. The overall exterior of 5th Generation saw a major change in design language compared to the 4th Generation 911 that many Porsche enthusiasts did not agree.
Interior
The interior of the 5th Generation Porsche 911 features the use of premium black plastic trim pieces. The seats are covered in black leather. Standard features include heated and power door mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry and a 4-speaker stereo audio system, Options include auto-dimming door mirrors, moonroof, memory seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, satellite navigation, 10-speaker stereo audio system with CD input, headlight cleaning system, rain sensing windscreen wipers, trip computer, rear window wiper, traction control, leather/wood steering wheel and heated front seats. The overall interior of the Porsche 911 5th Generation features a good amount of interior space in the front but a lack of interior space in the rear. It offers a good level of comfort and interior refinement.
